FolderShare vs Windows Live Sync log-ins

[Crossposted to FolderShare and Windows Live Sync newsgroups]

My client's been using FolderShare since before MS acquired it in Nov-05.
Their log-in (i.e., email address and password) is NOT associated with a
Live ID or a Hotmail account (obviously).

Assuming a Live ID will be required to log-in to WLSync, how will they
log-in after the transition?

Should we create a new Live ID associated with their current FolderShare
log-in in anticipation of the transition?

Will their current log-in automatically be associated with a Live ID once
the transition takes place? (Kinda doubt it.)

I imagine there are many other FolderShare users out there who may be in the
same boat and the WLSync hasn't said a word about this AFAIK.

Thanks.

I would suggest submitting this as an email support request for FolderShare:

Re: FolderShare vs Windows Live Sync log-ins

Behold, Windows Live FolderShare Technical Support hath spoken! <w>

<QP>
....I understand that you are concerned that your access to the Windows Live
FolderShare be interrupted once Windows Live Sync has been released. I am
here to address this.

Robear, you are correct that Windows Live Sync will now be incorporated with
Windows Live ID. Since you are a current non-Live ID user, you will be
prompted to register your account to enable it for the Live ID services. Be
assured that your access to the Windows Live FolderShare or Sync will not be
interrupted once it goes live.

The information above will help address your inquiry and I appreciate this
opportunity of providing you assistance.

You can also find the answers to some of the most common questions about
Windows Live FolderShare by going to
http://help.live.com/help.aspx?project=wl_foldershare
</QP>

Now we know. Thanks again, StephenB.

Re: FolderShare vs Windows Live Sync log-ins

QED: Would it behoove one to create the new Live ID in advance of the
transition or would doing so (needlessly) complicate matters?

I've pinged Tech Support about this, too.

Re: FolderShare vs Windows Live Sync log-ins

Support says it'd be perfectly OK to create the new Live ID before being
prompted to do so.

Re: FolderShare vs Windows Live Sync log-ins

First of all, forcing the use of the Live ID is shortsighted. In many
corporations, logging in to the Live ID is blocked by the firewall/proxy due
to the spam-magnet Hotmail/LiveMail (and also productivity reasons). This is
not likely to change.

Aside from the above, the Live-ID has been proven to be accessible to
spammers, even if never used. This makes it also accessible to hackers. Not a
very comfortable ID ... ehhh ... idea.

This is not what I have found occurs. I am currently minus all
personal and shared folders with any login I try. See article:
Message-ID: <j736k4hengqdmt5vohrvprh5ltsp31av5g@xxxxxx> in
microsoft.public.windows.live.sync Subject: Re: All libraries
disappeared.

None of the accounts I have converted to Live Sync are showing any
personal or shared library information. One was not a Windows Live ID
enabled account but has since been converted to Windows Live ID. The
other (as well as a third) were Windows Live ID enabled.

HELP!

Re: FolderShare vs Windows Live Sync log-ins

Your are more than welcome to begin your own thread about /your/ issues
instead of hijacking threads of others, David. I wouldn't expect Sync to be
working properly until later next week at the earliest, if I were you. Good
luck
