I need to unlock the toolbar in WLMail....

My toolbar of Wlmail, show my full nickname, that I use in Windows Live
Messenger, and is a big nickname. This make my icons of toolbar, is all hide.
And don't exist a option o unlock the toolbar, to me may, hide my nickname,
or move it to right, to have more space to see icons of toolbar!

Re: I need to unlock the toolbar in WLMail....

Try [Tools >] Options > Compose > Edit button > Contact and type in a new
nickname. You may have to wait a bit for it to appear.

Re: I need to unlock the toolbar in WLMail....

Sorry - it looks like something has changed very recently, since the release
of WL Mail out of beta. It certainly used to be the case that the display
name was taken from the me.contact file, but now it appears that it is
taking the Messenger display name along with the picture. For the time
being, until we find out what is happening, I can only suggest that you put
a new, shorter display name in Messenger and see if that helps.

Re: I need to unlock the toolbar in WLMail....

Second that. Right now it's not possible to customized it from Windows
Live Mail. So the easiest way is to use a shorter nick name in
Messenger. If you want to keep that long name, please use it as your
personal message, which you can modify from Messenger's
Tools/Options/Personal/Display Name/Type a personal message for your
contacts to see. That way you keep your display name short in Mail but
long in Messenger. Hope that helps.

Thanks,
-Hua

Re: I need to unlock the toolbar in WLMail....

I have to install Messenger (which I have no use for), just to
change the displayed name in Windows Live Mail?
This seems like a blunder.

Re: I need to unlock the toolbar in WLMail....

On the right side of the Toolbar is Windows Live sign-in. If you are signed
in, your Messenger display name is displayed on the right side of the
Toolbar.
So, this discussion in not about the display name on an email or in
contacts.

Re: I need to unlock the toolbar in WLMail....

Right, I think we're all agreed on that. My question is what does it say
next to the display picture (if any) if the user does not have Messenger
installed and/or is not signed in with a Live ID? In fact, there are so many
different possibilities (Messenger not installed; Messenger installed but
not running; Messenger installed and running, but not signed in; Messenger
installed and running, signed in with the same/a different Live ID - and
then all of these with the user signed out/signed in in WL Mail) that it's
not surprising that people see different things on their screen. That's why
I asked Gary what he's seeing.
