| | Properly setting-up Gmail IMAP folders in WLM Is there a way to map the 'special folders' on the IMAP tab to subdirectories? I would like to use the proper : Sent Items Path: [Gmail]\Sent Mail Drafts Path: [Gmail]\Drafts etc. however, I get an error that says the '\' and '/' characters are not allowed. Using a space instead also does not work -- it just creates new labels in Gmail instead ([Gmail] Sent Mail, etc.). I realize you can set root to [Gmail] instead, but then all labels created in Gmail will not be visible as they appear in the directory above. And changing all your Gmail labels to begin with [Gmail]\ as I've seen suggested to me is managing Gmail to work with WLM, not the other way around. Defeats half the purpose of using IMAP if you then chain it to work with one particular mail client. WLM team any thoughts? Seems to work with iPhones, per the recommended set-up instructions (http://5thirtyone.com/archives/862): Highlight '[Gmail] Sent Mail' in the sidebar and select 'Mailbox' (menu bar) > 'Use This Mailbox For' > 'Sent'. Highlight '[Gmail] Drafts' in the sidebar and select 'Mailbox' (menu bar) > 'Use This Mailbox For' > 'Drafts' Highlight '[Gmail] Trash' in the sidebar and select 'Mailbox' (menu bar) > 'Use This Mailbox For' > 'Trash' Highlight '[Gmail] Spam' in the sidebar and select 'Mailbox' (menu bar) > 'Use This Mailbox For' > 'Junk' |

Also, if you happened to *copy* the same message to another folder (so it has two labels in Gmail), subsequently deleting it from either folder (inbox or otherwise) will throw off an error in WLM. |

| | Re: Properly setting-up Gmail IMAP folders in WLM Nice video. The one mistake I caught is where he says one needs to have a Windows Live ID in order to use Windows Live Mail. That is not correct, since no Live ID is necessary to use POP/IMAP accounts. -- Gary VanderMolen [MS-MVP WLM] "WLDM" <WLDM@xxxxxx> wrote in message news A71701C-6693-41BD-AD22-AF76959BCFE5@xxxxxxQuote: > Do exactly as he says in this video... > > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GPmP...ows-live-mail/ > > I did this and it works perfectly.... |

| | Re: Properly setting-up Gmail IMAP folders in WLM There is a way to enter [Gmail]/Sent Mail etc. using a workaround. In the IMAP settings tab, change the paths to [Gmail]#Sent Mail [Gmail]#Drafts ....etc. Navigate to your Windows Live Mail Directory (Find it using Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Maintenance -> Store Folder Go to the Gmail sub directory of that folder. Edit an XML file in there called account{Lots of letters and numbers}.oeaccount Change the references to [Gmail]#Sent Mail and [Gmail]#Drafts to [Gmail]/Sent Mail and [Gmail]/Drafts Go into Gmail and remove any dodgy labels that have been set up, reset your Imap folders, and you are sorted. I have turmed off synchronisation on the [Gmail] node as synchronising it causes an error (as mentioned in the posts above). I tried setting up a Root Folder Path as detailed in the YouTube video, however I found that it only brought through labels from Gmail as folders if I prefixed the labels with [Gmail]/... in Gmail. I have also turned off the Quick Views as Unread Mail shows a double count, adding in the unread mail in each sub-folder. |
