| | Bug Inquiry - Up and Down Arrow Keys Don't Work Right in Folder Pane Does anybody else experience this behavior with build 1606? When I'm on WLM's main page in the left pane, I like to use the arrow keys to move up and down the very long list containing all of the folders in all of my accounts. This is very problematic, especially if I am moving in an upward direction. The highlight on the current folder often turns from teal to grey, and at that point the up arrow key stops working until I press another arrow key. Then, I may continue up for a few more folders until the same issue occurs. I should be able to move from the very last folder in the list all the way to the top simply by holding down the up-arrow key. It's a no go. Sometimes, when pressing an arrow key once at a time, I have to press the key two or three times to get the highlight to move just one folder. I always have to hit the arrow keys twice or more if I'm trying to jump from one account to the next. ~ Mark |

| | More Info The following behavior is reproducible with build 1606 on all of my Windows XP systems. Hit CTRL+I to highlight the 'Inbox' folder on the default account. (The highlight color is similar to aquamarine, but I'll call it teal.) Hit DOWN ARROW The highlight moves down one folder to 'Drafts', and the highlight color changes to gray Hit DOWN ARROW The highlight color changes back to teal Hit DOWN ARROW The highlight moves down one folder to 'Sent items', and the highlight color remains teal Hit DOWN ARROW The highlight moves down one folder to 'Junk e-mail', and the highlight color remains teal Hit DOWN ARROW The highlight moves down one folder to 'Deleted items', and the highlight color changes to gray Hit DOWN ARROW The highlight color changes back to teal Hit DOWN ARROW The highlight moves down one folder to the first folder that I created in this account. The highlight color changes to gray. Hit DOWN ARROW The highlight color changes back to teal At this point, I've hit DOWN ARROW eight times. I expect the eighth folder below the Inbox to be highlighted, but it simply does not work that way. This issue is one of dozens of navigational problems in build 1606 when using the keyboard; I will post some others as I have time to see if anybody else experiences these problems. (I always wait for bug confirmation before I send feedback to Microsoft.) ~ Markbot |

| | Re: More Info I see what you mean too Mark. Although to be honest, I never use the keyboard to navigate the folders. Doesn't mean it shouldn't be fixed though. It should work, just like in all other applications. If you bug it, I'll vote and verify. | | Re: More Info Yes, I get that behavior too, except if I hit the up arrow twice, it moves up 1 folder but stays grayed until I hit the down arrow once and then up twice for the next up folder. Another exception I found is that I had to reselect the folder when I hit one that WLM could not display because my AVG Free had already moved a wormy one to the vault. E.g. depending on what all layout elements you have open you may see that keyboard focus has changed to it (e.g. teal highlighting on a message list header or a message header). Or perhaps it is (deliberately?!) half way between two areas of keyboard focus. Taken this way you can imagine that a (Forward) Tab key changes an all-grey highlighting to definite focus in one of the other elements. Pressing Shift-Tab (Backtab) in most cases brings focus back to the list it was previously in and was taken from. BTW try it with the Folder pane contracted and you will see similar behaviour but without the highlighting help. Fortunately though then I think the movement through the list is less interrupted. .... (I always wait for bug confirmation before I send feedback to Microsoft.) I think there may certainly be a good argument against the "all-grey" cases. Another one of those that annoys me is an inexplicable extra Tab that I need when opening a composition from the Drafts (or Outbox) folders, in order to resume editing. The original OE behaviour was to resume editing without any tabbing required at all. OE6sp2 added the useless feechur (IMO) of keyboard focus in the To: field, thus requiring at least a Backtab to resume editing. Now WLM seems to require at least three Backtabs to get out of the To: field and into the composition frame. Where is focus going after the second Backtab? Robert Aldwinckle --- |
