| Guest | POP3. Can we access Windows Live Hotmail or not? According to Microsoft :- "Customers of either Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista interested in a solution to access their Windows Live Hotmail e-mail or one to access their Hotmail, POP3 and IMAP accounts will find that the Windows Live Mail client delivers this and more functionality to help bring life to their communications experience. Windows Live Mail is similar to Outlook Express and Windows Mail software but is optimized to work with Windows Live Hotmail" So why do I get "Server ERR Mailbox XXXX is not available" Do I need a special Hotmail account to use POP3? |

| Guest | Re: POP3. Can we access Windows Live Hotmail or not? You can access Gmail with pop3. You can't access hotmail with pop3. Windows Mail could not access hotmail. -- Ronald Sommer "Grumps" <powell.ian@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:a15add7c-15aa-418c-9766-533be96c4fc9@xxxxxx Quote: > According to Microsoft :- > > "Customers of either Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista interested in a > solution to access their Windows Live Hotmail e-mail or one to access > their Hotmail, POP3 and IMAP accounts will find that the Windows Live > Mail client delivers this and more functionality to help bring life to > their communications experience. > Windows Live Mail is similar to Outlook Express and Windows Mail > software but is optimized to work with Windows Live Hotmail" > > So why do I get "Server ERR Mailbox XXXX is not available" > > Do I need a special Hotmail account to use POP3? |

| Guest | Re: POP3. Can we access Windows Live Hotmail or not? You don't use POP3 to access Hotmail (in normal circumstances). If you have tried to set up your Hotmail account as a POP3 account, then it won't work. Delete the account, then try re-adding it, this time just accepting the defaults in the "Add an e-mail account" wizard. This system uses HTTP and has some advantages over POP3: (1) Your folders are synchronized - so what's on the web is a mirror image of what you have locally. (2) Your contacts are shared (also with Messenger). (3) Synchronization takes a fraction of the time it takes to conduct a POP3 download - important if you have a lot of messages in your Hotmail folders. Use POP3 for your other accounts, unless you want to experiment with IMAP for Gmail. -- Noel "Grumps" <powell.ian@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:a15add7c-15aa-418c-9766-533be96c4fc9@xxxxxx Quote: > According to Microsoft :- > > "Customers of either Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista interested in a > solution to access their Windows Live Hotmail e-mail or one to access > their Hotmail, POP3 and IMAP accounts will find that the Windows Live > Mail client delivers this and more functionality to help bring life to > their communications experience. |

Microsoft has announced that they will introduce POP3 for Hotmail accounts (I'm not sure if they have already implemented it) but only for Premium accounts. They said that this functionality would be available for everyone (including free accounts) in the future, but they didn't specified any date. |

| Guest | Re: POP3. Can we access Windows Live Hotmail or not? Gmail POP is working fine here. I have no idea why yours isn't working. Try deleting the account and then recreating it. -- Gary VanderMolen [MS-MVP WLM] "Tyrenta" <dougrentz@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:fceb2b97-287a-4aa5-a111-f26873058301@xxxxxx Quote: > Why can't Gmail be accessed anymore with POP3? Deleteing the account will now just undo all that work. At this point my time is better spent setting up a reliable client that I won't have to worry about.... |

So, it looks to me that it is not possible to simply delete and recreate an account (as you can in OE and WM), without first having to do a massive relocation of the account emails; twice! To me, that is an extremely unwise arrangement, which is making me rethink my decision to use WLM as my primary email client. -- Gary VanderMolen [MS-MVP WLM] |
