| | Memory Usage Revisited Ok guys, I've done some experimentation on my work PC around the memory usage of WLM. I've completely uninstalled WLM and deleted the folder under %APPDATA%, so this install is essentially a clean install. I reinstalled and ran WLM and immediately it climed to around 120MB of memory in Task Manager. I then realised that my 120+ RSS feeds would probably be chewing up most of that memory, so I deleted all of them from WLM (but not from IE7's common feed list). Closed WLM & compacted the data store. Reran again - 120MB of memory usage. This was with NO email accounts, NO feeds, and NO newsgroups. I've since subscribed to this newsgroup so I could post this message. It's currently sitting at 172MB in Task Manager. This is XP Professional. We run Symantec antivirus - not sure if that could be contributing somehow. I know in an earlier thread about memory usage someone asked me what AV I use (none on my home PC and laptop, both of which display similar memory usage behaviour). So ... WLM team! Any idea why it's chewing up so much memory? Is there some sort of diagnostic utility I can run to break down where the RAM is being used? Cheers, Matt |

| | Re: Memory Usage Revisited My memory usage is 44 MG. Was your anti-virus running when you installed WLM? How much mail was imported? What folder are you viewing when you check the memory usage? -- Ronald Sommer "Matt Hamilton" <mabster@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:3C3C28D1-C2E8-40B8-B71A-00F2FD8AE577@xxxxxx Quote: > Ok guys, I've done some experimentation on my work PC around the memory > usage of WLM. > > I've completely uninstalled WLM and deleted the folder under %APPDATA%, so > this install is essentially a clean install. > > I reinstalled and ran WLM and immediately it climed to around 120MB of > memory in Task Manager. > > I then realised that my 120+ RSS feeds would probably be chewing up most > of that memory, so I deleted all of them from WLM (but not from IE7's > common feed list). | | Re: Memory Usage Revisited Hi Ron, Yes, the AV would have been running while I installed WLM. I don't think I'm able to turn it off on the work PC - it's an enterprise-wide setting. No mail was imported - this was a clean install. No accounts set up at all. As for the folder I was viewing ... well, whatever the initial folder is when you have no accounts. Probably "All inbox" or "Unread e-mail". | | Re: Memory Usage Revisited I'm running at 39 MB with a POP and one HTTP account. I have several news subscriptions and only 4 RSS feeds. This was not a clean install. I have upgraded with every new release for about 6 months. I have Symantec AV on this XP Pro laptop. | | Re: Memory Usage Revisited I'm really starting to think it's RSS-feed related. I'm subscribed to 153 feeds in IE7's feed store, and most people posting here don't seem to have anywhere near that many feeds. If you look in your storage folder for WLM, there's a file called "RssFeeds.xml", and that has a line for each feed I'm subscribed to like this: <Feed Guid="{E96F3D94-31EA-49F8-B691-EADE742239FE}" Folder="FFFFFFFF" ShowSummary="true" /> .... even though I've *deleted all the feeds* from WLM. Removing those lines from that XML file makes WLM restore all the feeds and folders, so it obviously needs those there to tell it *not* to add the feeds to its own feed database. Perhaps just the fact that I have that many feeds is somehow affecting WLM's memory usage, even though I've deleted them all from WLM. Any MSFT guys reading who care to comment?
