It is actually crashing now and I have the following report that has been sent automatically to Microsoft. | | Re: Tray icon does not dissapear when i close live mail I submitted a service request to MS and got a reply today. I was told to backup all my messages, uninstall and then reinstall Windows Live Mail. Come on now, do they expect all of us to do that. I'll just live with the problem until they come up with a "real" fix. | | Re: Tray icon does not dissapear when i close live mail I submitted a request to MS as well and received the same request back from MS support. I performed the steps as requested and the problem seemed to go away, but it occurred again. It likely seemed to go away because during my test I did not send an email I just opened and closed WLM. | | Re: Tray icon does not dissapear when i close live mail Keith, this is the most recent comment I received from Microsoft on this issue: Hello Ronnie, Thank you for writing back to Windows Live Mail Technical Support. My name is Edward and I gather that when you create a new message and close Windows Live Mail, the wlmail.exe program is still running on the background. I understand the your concern on this issue. The behavior that you mentioned was tagged as by design by the product development team. However, I have already forwarded your case to them for review. They will review the issue that you mentioned and will create a bug submission after evaluation. We could not provide information on why this was tagged as by design as we are not the proper group to provide this information. Although this has been submitted for review, I would still suggest filling out a feedback for Windows Live Mail through the link below and include any feature that you think should be improved or added to the product. https://feedback.live.com/default.aspx I appreciate your patience and continued support. Sincerely, Edward Windows Live Mail Escalation Team "Keith" <Keith@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:A25C0EE8-EB3A-4723-A47F-4EA634FD6CEE@xxxxxx Quote: > I submitted a request to MS as well and received the same request back > from > MS support. > > I performed the steps as requested and the problem seemed to go away, but > it > occurred again. | | Re: Tray icon does not dissapear when i close live mail Hello All, I appear to have stumbled upon a fix for this problem, at least one that works for me. Go to Tools -> Options -> Send Check the box that shows "Upload Larger Images to the Web When Sending a Photo E-mail". I have checked and unchecked this box many times to test this. In every case (so far), if the box is left unchecked, Live Mail will hang on close if I create a new message. If I keep the box checked, Live Mail closes fine, the windows disappears from the Taskbar and the wlmail.exe process no longer runs in Task Manager. I have no idea why this works, or if it will work for everyone, but I would love to hear if this happens to solve the problem for any of the others that have reported this issue. I hope to get some responses. Thanks. | | Re: Tray icon does not dissapear when i close live mail To be really helpful, please include more information. Your build is 12.0.1606. Operating system? Type and number of accounts? Is Messenger running? Are you signed in to Windows Live? How did you install WLM? I do not have this problem. I am only accessing 4 pop3 accounts on a XP machine. I do not have a Tools -> Options -> Send box that shows "Upload Larger Images to the Web When Sending a Photo E-mail". You say, "create a new message". Is the create a message window still open? Saved to drafts? Sent? Is the email plain text, HTML, photo email? -- Ronald Sommer "RonnieJP" <ronniejp@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:Oq1dVsgRIHA.6036@xxxxxx Quote: > Hello All, > > I appear to have stumbled upon a fix for this problem, at least one that > works for me. > Go to Tools -> Options -> Send > Check the box that shows "Upload Larger Images to the Web When Sending a > Photo E-mail". > I have checked and unchecked this box many times to test this. | | Re: Tray icon does not dissapear when i close live mail Thanks for your response, Ron. Yes, I have the release build 12.0.1606 installed from the WLinstaller.exe downloaded from Microsoft Live's web link. I never had any of the beta versions installed. OS is Vista Ultimate 32-bit. I have 2 POP3 accounts, 1 MSN Hotmail HTTP account and 1 news account. Messenger is not running, but yes, it signs me into Windows Live. Hmmm, seems strange that you do not have a Tools -> Options -> Send box that shows "Upload Larger Images to the Web When Sending a Photo E-mail". I wonder if that only shows up in Vista as you mentioned you were running XP. Before finding this potential "workaround", all I would need to do is select the "New" message mail creation window. I wouldn't even need to type anything or actually send a message. If I just closed that new mail message window and then tried to close WLM (by the "X" or File->Exit), the icon would remain in the notification tray and the wlmail.exe process would continue to run. Right-clicking on "exit" on the tray icon would not stop the process either. I would need to kill the process in Task Manager. However, WLM would close fine if I was replying to an existing message. Only creating a new message would cause this problem. I hope to get some responses. Thanks. December patch Tuesday. I tried clearing the check in the "Upload Larger Images..." check box. Opened a "new" compose window, then "X" closed that window without input. "X" closed Windows Live Mail. No icon left in Notification Area. Works the same whichever way I have the "Upload Larger Images..." option checked. Checking the Task Manager for that part of the issue: Even though the WLM icon is not present in the Notification Area, 'wlmail.exe' process is still running after "X" close under the conditions you describe when the "Upload Larger Images..." option is unchecked. So, although I don't have the WLM icon left in the Notification Area, I still have the WLM process running. Using the Task Manager to end the process will cause an improper WLM shutdown error on the next open of WLM. I suppose the difference I am seeing might be that I have the "Hide window when Inbox is mimized" option selected. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

However, doing that does leave the 'wlmail.exe' process running.
