I am using Windows Live version 12.0.1365 and would like to try the latest version. Can I download it without uninstalling the version I am now using? If I have to uninstall first will I lose my emails, etc?

I haven't read about anyone losing message when updating to 1606.
I did the update without uninstalling 1365.
You could always backup to be safe.

Hi Sharyn:
These questions do not have clear-cut answers because none of the WLMb versions released to date have worked consistently with all users regarding deletion of current e-mails when upgrading and problems with installing one version on top of another. In other words, your mileage may vary.
(Hmmm, WLMb will not allow me to remove the bold and italic attributes from my text. Bummer.)
If you moved any messages to the storage folders and then syncronized your accounts, it's likely that those messages have been removed from the server(s). So, if you uninstall WLMb, then you could lose those messages because it's possible that the uninstallation will delete the contents of your storage folders on your computer's hard drive. But, this has not always been with case with everybody. I've uninstalled and reinstalled WLMb on prior builds where all of my messages were instantly available (i.e., WLMb did not have to download 20000 messages after installing; it used copies stored on my hard drive which were not deleted during the uninstallation).
Due to all of the inconsistencies posted in this forum, I would suggest the following.
NEVER install any build of WLMb on top of any other build. Always uninstall first.
If you have NOT moved any messages from HTML-based e-mail accounts into any of WLMb storage folders, then all of your original e-mails should still be on the original servers. In this case, you will not lose any of your messages; WLMb can download them all again after installing the latest build.
If you have POP- or IMAC-based e-mail accounts in WLMb, then I'm not sure if those messages are all available from their respective server(s) after uninstalling. This is due to customizable features at individual providers on how messages are retained on the servers.
If you are not sure whether or not you've moved messages to any of the storage folders in WLMb, or you are not sure about HTML-, POP-, and IMAC-based accounts, then make backups of the contents of the storage folders (and your message store, too). Then uninstall WLMb.
If you want to be absolutely sure, backup your entire message store before any uninstallation of WLMb.
(If you need help doing this, please ask.) Also, uninstalling WLMb does not remove all of its components; other posters have problems after upgrading because of this, so don't be surprised if WLMb is not trouble free for you after upgrading.
I'm lucky enough to have my applications and data spread over several computers, so I am able to do a clean installation of WLMb each time. Now, I always complete a security wipe on the hard drive and reinstall the operating system before installing WLMb because this e-mail client still acts very much like a beta.
Good luck.

Hi ...winston:
From my point-of-view, build 1606 is still a beta, so I refer to it as WLMb.
I hope this changes in the not-to-distant future.

tail a leg, but that does not make a dog a five-legged creature.

Thanks for the information I was able to download Windows live newest version. I did not uninstall the previous one.
It did it automatically.

You can refer to its readiness in whatever fashion is suitable for your
taste, that doesn't change the current released name.
Additionally use of the 'b' without clarification of version indicates an
earlier version[d or b], and those responding in kind, may without intention
confuse
an op.
Oddly enough 'b' wasn't used in your earlier(yesterday) response
"Considering that Windows Live Mail (no longer has the "desktop" in the name
(if you truly are using "WLMd", you are about three versions behind
current),

Hi Norman:
I agree with your analogy -- as long as the dog has not learned to use its
tail as an extra leg to augment what the other limbs do.
You can also change the name of a project from Operation Iraqi Freedom to
Mission Accomplished, but that doesn't make it so.
Anyway, I decided to lay my "WLMb" sarcasm to rest (as long as I humanly
can), partly because most people just don't understand my humor and partly
because I don't want to add to the confusions over so many Microsoft e-mail
schemas.
