Can not Copy to Paste Buffer

I'm new to Windows Live Mail (on WinXP) and like the new look and feel.
(Perhaps M/S can come out with a new windows manager that give all windows
on XP the same look and feel, but that is another topic)

Many times I find it necessary to copy text from a mail message and then
paste it into something else, such as receiving one of those 16 random
character temporary passwords that need to be entered into a field in
another application. I can not seem to copy anything into the paste buffer
unless I first start to forward the message, copy the text, and then cancel
the forward.

I let Mail Live automatically import my settings from OE v6 or whatever
version is installed as a result of upgrading to IE7.

Any suggestions?

Re: Can not Copy to Paste Buffer

What Operating System are you using (XP or Vista) and when exactly happens
when you highlight the text and the Right click on it?

I've tried it here and it works perfectly for me.

Re: Can not Copy to Paste Buffer

I'm using Windows XP. I can Copy then paste anything from the message
header but not from the body of the message.

Works fine here using Vista.

I experience the same problem, but not on the first copy.

Here's what I did:
1) Open an existing email, select some text in the body, ctrl-C to copy.
2) Go to Notepad, ctrl-V to paste -- works as expected.
3) Go back to the email, select some other text in the body, ctrl-C
4) Go to Notepad, ctrl-V -- doesn't work -- pastes the same text as in step 2.

I'm running WLM 12.0.1606 on Vista Home Premium.

ps. Right-click copy works, so maybe it is a problem with handling keyboard
events.

Re: Can not Copy to Paste Buffer

I followed your 4-step scenario, and it worked just fine for me.

Re: Can not Copy to Paste Buffer

Same here. We went through this once before in another thread and the
4-step scenario posted by Baffin works fine for me in Vista Home Premium. I
just tried it again and it works. Have no idea what could be wrong, sorry.

I used to get burnt by this on OE, so much so that I have probably
stopped using Ctrl-c and switched to using Menu,c as the primary
Copy procedure, not just the backup.

Now I'll have to retrain myself for WLM to see how often Ctrl-c
is a problem in it too. Thanks... ; ]

Re: Can not Copy to Paste Buffer

Thanks for posting your test results.

I tried plugging in another different keyboard (a recent USB from Dell) and
got the exact same results -- the first ctrl-C works but not subsequent.
However, right-clock, Copy works.

I'm using a recent Dell desktop, Inspiron 531, with Home Premium.

This problem hasn't been observed in any other application, just WLM.

Re: Can not Copy to Paste Buffer

Change the toolar/menus to "Show all menus"

I found that when doing so the Crtl functions work fine
