    WLM Desktop Install Issues.

Ok, Here goes. After installing KB944990, WLM went wonky. It installed ok,
or so I thought. Then, every time I went to use it, either thru the desktop,
or from messenger it went thru the installation process again. I Emailed
support, their answer which I found on MS web site has now left me with
Multiple desktop icons, and the same installation and use issues, and then I
find out that the V1 beta has reappeared on my machine, and I cannot
un-install it because of a missing patch. Anyone else having this issue. I
really do like the program and have been using it since Beta 1. Any idaes
    would be most appreciated.

Hi, I would like to know what MS support asked you to try. For now, I just want to clarify a few things.
KB944990 is build 12.0.1606 of Windows Live Mail, which has been referred to as Version 1 because it is the final release. The previous build was 12.0.1365, which was referred to as Beta 2. Before that was build 12.0 1184, which was referred to as Beta 1.
KB944990 is the automatic update for WLMail (upgrade to 12.0.1606), which is downloaded and installed when a beta version of WLMail is already installed.
Now, from your post, I gather that you did have a Beta version of WLMail installed (it is not clear which one), and the automatic update to upgrade to the final version 1 was then downloaded and installed. However, there was a problem with that installation, which caused WLMail 12.0.1606 to attempt to reinstall itself each time it was started. So did that reinstallation complete, allowing you to run WLMail, or did WLMail refuse to start? Are you sure that WLMail reinstalls itself when started or does a message inform you that it is recovering the database?
As for the multiple WLMail desktop icons, I imagine they are just shortcuts to run WLMail, which should point to the same location ("C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe"). You can check this by right-clicking on the shortcut and selecting 'Properties'.
Now, you say Beta 1 of WLMail is now installed, which is build 12.0.1184 (check by going: Help->About Microsoft Windows Live Mail). If that is the case, it must be because you used an old link/installer to install WLMail, unless it is because you did a system restore. But you mentioned you cannot uninstall it because of a missing patch. There are no 'patches' to WLMail, but if you cannot uninstall it through Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs (or Programs and features in Vista), then it would seem that the uninstaller is missing. Is there an error message? And this beta version of WLMail, which is now installed, is also reinstalling itself every time it is started?
So what Operating System are you using?
If you could post back with more detail (and accuracy given the above comments) it would help (too much detail is better than too little).
