| | spam filtering on folders Hi - is there a problem with the spam filter operating on user made folders? In Outlook Express I had a number of folders, with filter rules to divert all mail from, say Ben into a folder called Ben's mail. When I installed WLM it recreated my folders, and the correct mail goes into them, but I'm also seeing spam going in - and when I try to add sender or domain to the blocked list, it doesn't work, and the mail isn't deleted either at that stage. Thanks |

It will not transfer. I guess I should have said that with mail that goes into the default inbox of my email account, i.e. anything that isn't filtered into one of my custom folders, the spam/junk filter is working quite well. With anything that gets through there, if I right click on it and select add to blocked senders, then it is automatically deleted. All well and good. But with spam that is diverted into my custom folders, going through the same process doesn't lead to the message being deleted automatically. So I'm trying to understand why that is. Is there something wrong with my set up, or is that a feature of the programme? When you say "Go Message menu Junk Mail to set it up. It will not transfer" - I don't follow - I can't see a "Message" menu, or do you mean the menu that appears when I right click on a message? Cheers |

| | Re: spam filtering on folders I am also getting this spam in my mail. Specifically IPhone Promotion CA ads. Everytime I recieve one I select delete and block but they just keep coming back. I just switched from Hotmail to WLM and hotmail was blocking these emails but now WLM is allowing them to go into my inbox. I have already tried changing my junkmail settings and that doesnt seem to work. I am not willing to do the high security where I can only recieve mail from my contacts, because that just isnt going to work for me. Im sure that Microsoft should be able to come up with a junk mail blocker a little better than this. Right? If this isnt fixed soon.. its back to hotmail for me! |

| | Re: spam filtering on folders Have you checked the Blocked Senders list (Tools->Safety options...->Blocked Senders [tab] to see if the offending address is listed there? If not, add it manually. Also check your Safe Senders list to be sure it hasn't been added to that list accidently, although adding an address to the Blocked Senders list should remove it from the Safe Senders list and vice versa. -- Cheers, Peter (Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows Live Mail 12.0.1606) "There are more things in Heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." - Shakespeare --------------- "KKT" <KKT@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:355DBD10-9810-4687-8116-F89121797E59@xxxxxx Quote: > I am also getting this spam in my mail. Yes, have checked. Experience since my original post is that the spam filter doesn't operate on mail that is diverted by message rules into user folders. And when you select to add spam in those folders to the blocked senders list it is added (which I hadn't realised before), but the message itself isn't then deleted automatically. You have to delete it manually. The problem is that I find some spam messages target particular email accounts, so if I direct mail to those accounts into my user folders, the spam filter doesn't check them, so even though they come from a blocked sender, they get through. For what it's worth, before I moved to WLM Desktop I used Outlook Express and paid for the Cloudmark spam filter, which worked brilliantly, until their latest upgrade, which suddenly stopped working on user folders - which they admitted and are still trying to resolve. Is there anywhere to send official feedback about WLM Desktop that you know of, to make sure they know this is an issue? I think there are so many advantages to WLM compared to Outlook Express that I'm going to stick with it now, but it would be nice to get these niggles resolved. Cheers |

| | Re: spam filtering on folders I don't have any trouble with this. All mail that I receive via POP3 is diverted into user folders under the default account. The spam filter works exactly as I expect it to on the Low setting. If you're diverting incoming mail to Storage folders, it may be that the diversion is happening before the spam filter has a chance to kick in. Do your rules end with 'Stop processing more rules'? I can see no reason to use Storage folders for anything other than HTTP mail (in order to keep a local copy of a message that is not saved on the server), and if it is causing you problems as you describe, then try using folders set up within your accounts. (They're also easier to get at - mine are at the top of the Folder pane tree.) As I say, it works fine for me... -- Noel "JIP" <fred@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:uvIzbpBPIHA.5264@xxxxxx Quote: > > > "Peter.R" <Peter.R@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:41A9BA48-8755-48EE-9447-4A4DDE82D513@xxxxxx Quote: >> Have you checked the Blocked Senders list (Tools->Safety options...->Blocked Senders [tab] to see if the offending address is >> listed there? I'll try what you describe - create the same folders under the default account heading. Thanks for the reply. |
