Password to get into WLM

I accidentally hit the save password on my initial login to WLM and I cannot
figure out how to turn it off so that others cannot get into my account.
Thanks for any help!

You can enable/disable the save password from the top right windows of
WLM where your live mail id is. Click the downward arrow then choose
"change id". However, that signin username/password will not prevent
anybody from opening WLM, it's purpose(I'm not sure), I think is for
messenger. Try to cancel the signin window instead and you'll find
out WLM will still open.

Whether you are using Windows XP, or Windows Vista, the security of *all* of
your files, not just Windows Live Mail, is dependent upon *not* sharing your
Windows session with other users. To keep your email, and your other files,
private, set up different user accounts, one for each user, with passwords;
and log out of your Windows session when you are finished.

The purpose of the sign-in is to enable synchronization with your Live ID contacts.

Thanks for the info. What's the relation of the sign-in to the
messenger shortcut at the bottom of the left menu. If I cancel the
sign-in instead of filling in the password, when WLM comes up the
messenger shortcut is not present. This is the reason I taught the
sign-in is for messenger.

Re: Password to get into WLM

Thanks to all. After changing the sign in name and cancelling the remember
my password I realize that if you hit cancel it opens all the mail you had
but just will not synchronize with new mail. I think this is idiotic because
you are only secure from others getting to new email. If this is how it is
supposed to be then why even ask for a password just have everyone put it on
the login page to either XP or even worse Vista. Thanks for all the help
everyone!

Re: Password to get into WLM

Whether you sign in with a Live ID or not should not affect synchronization of your mail. See
http://help.live.com/help.aspx?mkt=e...=&query=#faq16 .
What kind of account is failing to sync? HTTP (Hotmail), POP3, IMAP? How are you trying to sync? Do you hit Send/Receive or do you
have "Check for new messages every n minutes" selected?
Signing in has nothing to do with security - and pressing F1 won't break anything.

Re: Password to get into WLM

Historically, email programs have not had a sign-in to open
the program. Those who share a computer with others should
have their own Windows user login. That is the only way to
protect not only your email but also your documents and pictures.

Thanks for the info. When I first set up WLM sign-in, I used my
hotmail.com account which is fine cause all my contacts were complete.
Without realizing there is a relation to the id you use to sign-in,
when I switch to my live.com account all the contact entries were
gone. Now I know why.

One thing that bothered me about WLM is when you decide to stop
the Live ID sign-in (or switch to a different one), all of a sudden all
your contacts are missing! Luckily, someone here showed me how to
copy the transient Live contacts to permanent WLM contacts. The
exact method escapes me at the moment, but I'm sure someone else
remembers how.
