Going To Next Email When Deleting

In the older versions of Outlook, you could set it to automatically go back
to your Inbox when deleting a message. Now in the New Mail, it automatically
goes to the next message and opens it. Can this be changed to go back to the
inbox instead of opening the next message? The next message may be fille
with spam or other stuff I do not want to open at the time.

No, it can't be changed.
Do your deleting from the message list pane.
