| Guest | Retrieve mail every x minutes not working Hi, I am using the last version of Windows Live Mail and I have defined the option "Check for new messages every --- minutes" to check messages every minute. I am checking 4 hotmail mail accounts. The problem is that it seems that WLM doesn't check mail every minute but more every ten minutes approximatively . Is it normal ? Is there a way to force automaticaly the check messages every minute ? Thank you -- Pascal |

| Guest | Re: Retrieve mail every x minutes not working CANNOT check mail very minute. takes the systems more time than that to complete one check. what in the world do you think is so important that you need to check mail every minute. 20-30 minutes is more reasonable. mikeyhsd@xxxxxx "Pascal" <pascal_t@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:mn.5b387d7ca0c940cb.70874@xxxxxx Hi, I am using the last version of Windows Live Mail and I have defined the option "Check for new messages every --- minutes" to check messages every minute. What OS? XP or Vista. If you change it to 10 minutes, does it work properly? -- İLarryEş "mikey" <mikeyhsd@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:%233zJXYAPIHA.5400@xxxxxx CANNOT check mail very minute. takes the systems more time than that to complete one check. what in the world do you think is so important that you need to check mail every minute. | Guest | Re: Retrieve mail every x minutes not working It is not a bug. Checking one account every minute sometimes is too soon. If mail is still being downloaded, is it supposed to check for new mail? Add the fact that there are 4 accounts. Email is not Instant Messaging. -- Ronald Sommer "İLarryEş" <me@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:9BCF5F70-2C17-48CD-B47E-CCA693DF9A07@xxxxxx Regardless of what he thinks is so important, if he has it set for one minute, it should check every minute and if it doesn't, it's a bug. | Guest | Re: Retrieve mail every x minutes not working Hi, just for answering to mikey. It is "important" for me to see that I have received mails as I am admin of a forum and it's nice to be alerted quite quickly after an answer of a topic has been sent. For the others, the check of the 4 accounts is very quickly ! Something like 7-8 seconds for every accounts so the explanation about the fact that the check is not yet terminated is not true.(Moreover I am never receiving attached files with my emails, just few text). Moreover if I force a synchro, it is working. Am I the only one that is having this issue ? It can't be a Hotmail limitation? I am quite sure I will have the same problem with only one account. I have tried on XP SP2 and 2008. Thank you

| Guest | Re: Retrieve mail every x minutes not working If one or more of your accounts happens to have a lot of emails to download, the process will not complete in 7-8 seconds. When I used to work tech support for an Internet company, we often ran into a situation where the server mailbox was 'hung' because the user's checking interval was too frequent. After a bunch of email has downloaded, the server needs to do some housekeeping chores, like deleting emails and resetting pointers. Bottom line, I would not recommend a checking interval shorter than five minutes. -- Gary VanderMolen [MS-MVP WLM] "Pascal" <pascal_t@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:mn.5cae7d7c58bd9cd5.70874@xxxxxx

| Guest | Re: Retrieve mail every x minutes not working I just timed the check of my 12 accounts and it was done in 10 seconds. Plenty of time left over. If there is a valid reason that 1 minute is too short of an interval for checking, then it should not be able to be set as such. -- İLarryEş "Ron Sommer" <rsommer@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:uPrn41APIHA.5184@xxxxxx It is not a bug. | Guest | Re: Retrieve mail every x minutes not working This was a frequent complaint throughout the beta period. Checking at one minute intervals, however, simply bogs down/hangs many mail servers. Like Gary said, allow the server time to do it's housekeeping before making the next check. I agree that MS probably should have made some kind of lower limit to the check frequency, but I imagine there are actually some servers out there that could actually handle a one minute check interval. | Guest | Re: Retrieve mail every x minutes not working I have perhaps an explanation. Indeed it seems that sometimes hotmail servers "hangs" and it takes several minutes to check my emails. I have also verified that the check interval defined will be the time that WLM will wait before checking mail accounts AFTER THE END of the last check. So, if I force a check at 9h30min00s and the check is ending at 9h30min15s then the next check will be done 1 minute after the end of the last check so at 9h31min15s. So "perhaps", when the server hangs and that WLM is waiting for an answer several minutes for one account, it could explain the fact that I have regularly to wait 10 minutes to receive my emails. It is working fine with a POP account.
