switching to newsgroups

So how can this be set up to go to a specific group when you go to the
newsgroup pane.
I have about 20.. and the one on the top of my list is a photoshop group
which I do not check that often.
I don't want to keep downloading messages from that group if I am not going
to read them, but because it often goes to the top group when I switch over
to groups they download.. and sometimes it opens on another group, maybe the
last one I viewed.. But we should have control to where it opens ??

Re: switching to newsgroups

This is a known bug. WLM currently remembers the last mail folder selected
between sessions but not the last news or RSS folder.

Thanks for using Windows Live Mail!

Re: switching to newsgroups

As long as it doesn't land on the All News quick view folder, I don't care.
Prior builds had a tendency to do that to me, which means I was
locked out of doing anything for a minute or so while it loaded the
All News folder. Still wish I could unselect that useless folder.

Re: switching to newsgroups

That behavior (defaulting to All news) was filed as a separate bug, and it
has been fixed for the next version.

Re: switching to newsgroups

Hi, David.

Thanks!

It would be enough to make that selection optional. I don't really use it
and I'll be glad to see it gone. But it is interesting, sometimes, to read
all the new News posts in date/time sequence. If I read only a few NGs, I
might opt to keep that selection.

I use the "compact Folder view" in which I have only the Outbox listed.
Then I use Ctrl-y to switch to my newsgroups.

I imagine you do could put whatever you want in that view too.

BTW if you just want to enter a particular newsgroup directly
you could create a Desktop shortcut which does that.
For example, to enter this newsgroup (assuming it is hosted by
your default server) you would code:

wlmail.exe /newsurl:news:microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop

Etc.

Re: switching to newsgroups

I can't understand why anyone would want to read posts from different
newsgroups all jumbled up.
