Reply to a thread in WLM newsgroup - how?

I have just started using WLM as a newsgroup reader (downloaded latest
version 12/13/07). I'd like to reply to a post and have it appear in the
thread I'm replying to, but I see no way to do that. I don't want to start a
new thread, using New. WLM Help says that Reply and Reply Group send emails
rather than create posts, and that would seem to be true. In fact, they
appear to send undeliverable emails (I used Reply, it sent an apparent email
to username@xxxxxx, which was returned to my mailbox as
undeliverable). So....is this not supported in WLM?
I can still use discussion groups in IE, of course...but WLM seems so handy
and fast. Am I missing something?

I think I have answered my own question (if these works). Reply group is
the thing to choose. I may have overinterpreted Help.

Yes, you solved it. Note that 'Reply' does not seem to work when
WLM is not the default email program.

WLM is my default email program....and it didn't work. But I don't really
care since that's not what I wanted to do. Thanks for your reply!

Indeed. "Reply Group" creates what NNTP users call a "Followup" to an
article you are reading. "Reply" creates an email message to the email
address of the poster of the article you are reading. If the poster is using
a non-functional email address (as many do in order to foil spammers), and
has no functional email address configured as a "Reply To" (as I have), then
"Reply" won't work. "Reply Group" always works, as long as you are using a
server with posting privileges (some NNTP servers are "read only" by
design).

Re: Reply to a thread in WLM newsgroup - how?

Gary,
Here's what happens on this Vista U machine.
Outlook 2007 is my default email client, WLM the default newsreader.
Reply to Group responds to the selected news message.
Reply to Sender causes an Office OL07 dialog box requiring access(allow,
deny, help) or alternatively the option for a selectable 1 to 10 min.
period of time. The replied message once sent is in my OL07 Outbox.

Re: Reply to a thread in WLM newsgroup - how?

I also have Vista, WLM is my default email, and Windows Mail
my newsreader. I have Outlook installed but I don't use it for
anything except testing.

I found the cause for my reply difficulty. Somehow Outlook had
grabbed the "E-mail link" protocol in Default Programs. Once I
changed that to WLM, reply works properly. However, if I change
that protocol assignment to Outlook or Windows Mail,
and then click the reply button in WLM, I get a warning dialog
box that says "A program is attempting to send the following
e-mail message on your behalf." It gives me a choice of Cancel
or Send. If I click Send, a copy of the message is placed in the
Outbox, but the To line is blank! It doesn't give me an opportunity
to add my own reply text.
I guess the moral of the story is that if the email-related protocol
assignments are split between two programs, you can get some
weird results.
