| Guest | Disappearing contacts so strange: i have been using live mail for three months now and somehow got used to it (i still prefer the way outlook express does many things, but...). in any case. until yesterday i had some 8000 contacts available when i clicked on "contacts". suddenly - i don't have any clue what changed, i "didn't do anything" - i only see 1250 contacts. where are the others? they must be "somewhere on my computer"... anybody have any thoughts . the only noticeable difference seems to be that on the right hand side where my hotmail login is noted my picture has vanished, although i am still logged in and see my picture when i go into "view windows live account info" (not that i want to see myself, it is just the only other change besides my many missing addresses). help and ideas appreciated. thanks tomas |

| Guest | Re: Disappearing contacts 8,000 contacts??? That's obscene. LOL Sorry, please help me understand why anyone would have 8,000 contacts. I'm just a home user and that boggles my mind. | Guest | Re: Disappearing contacts Less than a month ago, you complained that your 8000 contacts were being stored by Microsoft ["i honestly don't care at all to have my contacts available in a hotmail account i was forced to open just to run WLM (and don't use obviously). i want MY contacts on MY computer. they belong to ME, not microsoft!"). You were told how to avoid this, and the folly of having so large a contacts list was also pointed out to you. You clearly chose to ignore the advice that was given then, and you now seem to be hoping that Microsoft has a copy of what you think you've lost on your own computer. I'm guessing here (and painting a 'worst case' scenario), but 8000 contacts could require several MB of storage space. If this is included in your Hotmail storage quota, then you've probably exceeded the limit and it could be that Hotmail has started weeding out, although I should have thought you'd get a warning if that was the case. Still, *if* Hotmail has discarded some of your contacts, and *if* you are usually signed in with your Hotmail Live ID, then the deletions would eventually synchronize with your local store, meaning that these contacts would be deleted there, too. As a rescue operation, stop signing in (Options > Connection > Stop signing in). Then do a search of your computer for files (including hidden ones) with extension .contact and .windowslivecontact. That should reveal a number of folders containing contacts. Have a look at them to see which contains the most files. How to recover them for use in Windows Live Mail depends on where they are and what type. -- Noel "saviola417" <saviola417@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:758B6DBC-33DC-4A8A-8403-B1D822D438B9@xxxxxx
