| Guest | Windows Live Mail I'll be moving OE mail to Vista next week and if I have understood correctly, Vista Mail has since converted to Windows Live Mail. Is this correct and if so, does one uninstall Vista Mail and instead install WLM? Also, I have searched but can't find the answer to this. In OE, it was recommended not to use the MAIN IDENTITY in setting up a mail account because apparently there was more likelihood of corrupt folders. Is there anything comparable in Vista Mail or WLM? Thanks in advance. Dan |

| Guest | Re: Windows Live Mail That is not correct. Windows Mail remains on the computer. It will not do http accounts. WLM will use pop3, http, and/or imap accounts. WM and WLM do not use Identities. Both store messages as individual files. -- Ronald Sommer "Dapper Dan" <dapperdan@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:#hXwqp$PIHA.5360@xxxxxx

| Guest | Re: Windows Live Mail To add to Ron's input... One does not uninstall Vista's included Windows Mail(WM), it is part of the o/s. Installation of WLM client will replace some of the shortcuts(e.g. Windows Mail on the Quick Launch tool bar). The user can restore the shortcut[s](recreate, if missing) and configure WM to use(in lieu of WLM) as the default mail or news client. -- ...winston ms-mvp windows live mail "Dapper Dan" <dapperdan@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:#hXwqp$PIHA.5360@xxxxxx

| Guest | Re: Windows Live Mail Thanks for replying Ron and Winston. You may have responded to my specific questions but I'm still a bit in the dark so would appreciate clarification. I have purchased a new computer and will be transferring data from the old OS to the new Vista next week. I had understood Microsoft has virtually abandoned Vista Mail so I'm trying to find out what I'm supposed to do with my OE account. It makes no sense to transfer to Vista Mail if it is no longer supported. If Vista Mail is being abandoned, what should I be converting to; WLM or OUTLOOK or something else? Are there websites comparable to OEHELP and/or INSIDE OE where one can get direction for Vista related mail. Should they questions be asked in another NG? Would appreciate your comments. | Guest | Re: Windows Live Mail Yes Ron, we have 3 pop3 accounts through our cable ISP, although we could narrow it down to 2 if needed. Hotmail is not involved, however there are a couple of web based accounts, GMail and Yahoo that we use simply as an emergency account. | Guest | Re: Windows Live Mail Export the account settings and save the address book and store folder. http://www.insideoe.com/backup/simple.htm I would use WLM. Import the account settings and the email. http://www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx -- Ronald Sommer "Dapper Dan" <dapperdan@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:#WB6vYNQIHA.5360@xxxxxx

| Guest | Re: Windows Live Mail Does each pop3 account have a unique email address and password ? Gmail - enable pop3 on the Gmail server or enable Imap(my preference is pop3, others may differ) Yahoo - iirc pop3 only(requires Yahoo Plus - $20/yr) -- ...winston ms-mvp windows live mail "Dapper Dan" <dapperdan@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:#WB6vYNQIHA.5360@xxxxxx

| Guest | Re: Windows Live Mail Yes Winston, each pop3 account via our cable ISP has a unique email address and password. Yahoo account is accessed directly and automatically via OE and btw, yahoo.ca pop3 is available free in Canada. My Gmail account is accessed via web only, although I know I could access via OE. I think we will convert our OE account to WLM. My initial confusion stems from the fact that I understood Microsoft had effectively abandoned Vista Mail but there is no obvious indication of that if one visits the vista mail NG. Again, thanks for your input and feedback, it is certainly appreciated. Dan "...winston" <winstonmvp@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:%23NtxtqfQIHA.3676@xxxxxx
