Re: windows mail or Outlook ?

Hi, Fox.

Many differences! I won't try to list them all, but briefly:

Outlook is a part of the Microsoft Office Suite, although it can be
purchased separately; it is NOT an integral part of any version of Windows
or Vista. It has been through many successive versions, with names like
Outlook 99, Outlook XP and the current Outlook 2007. It handles email, plus
a Calendar, Contacts and Tasks - but not newsgroups.

Windows Mail is the Vista version of Outlook Express. It is an integral
part of all versions of Windows Vista. It handles email and newsgroups.
Despite the similar names, Outlook and Outlook Express are completely
separate programs. Outlook Express will not run in Vista; Windows Mail will
not run in any Windows version before Vista; Outlook will run in any version
of Windows, including Vista.

After the release of Vista, with Windows Mail included, Microsoft developed
Windows Live Mail, a part of the new Windows Live family; the final version
of Windows Live Mail was released just last month, November 2007. Windows
Live Mail will run in Windows XP and in Vista. Like Outlook Express and
Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail handles both email and newsgroups.

As I said, these are not all the differences, but this should get you
started. ;^}

Re: windows mail or Outlook ?

I would like to start this as a new thread, but the new thread button isn't
bringing up a window to do so. (Why would REPLY work, but not NEW THREAD???)

Here's my message:

There's one similarity in Windows Mail and in Outlook Express, a rare but
extremely frustrating bug. Pressing the ENTER key can sometimes send the
email that you're typing into. I've probably pressed the ENTER key hundreds
of thousands of times in the tens of thousands of emails that i've sent over
the years with Outlook Express on Windows 2000, and now with Vista 32 Home
Edition. Probably twenty or thirty times, pressing the ENTER key IN THE TEXT
OF THE MESSAGE has suddenly sent the unfinished message on its way. It just
happened to me again today, with Windows Vista and Windows Mail.

Microsoft makes it very difficult to file bug reports on many of its
products, or at least that has been the case over the years. I'd like to know
where to report this bug. Or if its already been reported, what is the status?

best wishes,
richard myers

Feedback for Windows Live Mail

https://feedback.live.com/default.as...=wlmaildesktop

E-mail support for Windows Live Mail

https://support.live.com/eform.aspx?...top&ct=eformts

If you have a paid Hotmail/MSN/Live email account you are also entitled to
chat and phone support. Sign in with your Live ID and go to Help Central
from either of the pages above.

Are you using Windows Mail or Windows Live Mail? This is the Windows Live
Mail discussion group. The one for Windows Mail is

microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail

Good luck,

Earle

From your message headers:

X-Newsreader: Microsoft CDO for Windows 2000

That header line identifies your news agent as a web browser. I have always
found web browsers to be clunky at rendering newsgroups on NNTP servers. A
better tool is to set up a proper news client. Even MS Outlook Express 6 is
superior to MS Internet Explorer, et. al., at accessing newsgroups on NNTP
servers.

If you have a default news client configured, this will should get you to
this group in the client:

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...e.mail.desktop

Re: windows mail or Outlook ?

I've not had that happen.

A couple of things you can do to protect yourself is in Tools, Options,
Send uncheck the Send Immediately and Tools, Options, General uncheck
the Check for new messages every xx minutes.

ALT+S will do a send. You might look at Sticky keys (under control
panel accessibility options). If that gets enabled, and you press an S
key, that might be doing the send rather than the Enter you suppose.

Windows Vista Mail Newsgroup:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...ows.vista.mail

You can also get to the newsgroup via this web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities...s/default.mspx
There select Windows Vista, then Windows Mail.

Re: windows mail or Outlook ?

Use a newsreader to start a new thread..
Windows Mail, Outlook Express, or Windows Live Mail all function for that purpose.

Fyi...you posted to the Windows Live Mail newsgroup asking a question about Vista's Windows Mail..

Please decide which newsgroup is the appropriate group and start a news thread..

The link below will setup one of the above news clients(whichever is installed as the current default)

Windows Mail
------------
Nttp:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...ows.vista.mail

Windows Live Mail
Nntp:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...e.mail.desktop

I've used both Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail and I've yet to have an 'Enter' keystroke send an email message
