| | windows contacts versus live mail contacts? I just noticed an icon in my start menu for "windows contacts". When I opened it, I was expecting to see all the mail contacts but it only has 6 in it (my live mail contacts has about 96 atm), so I'm confused. What is this extra contacts thing and what is it used for? Can I remove it or sync the 2?? Lori -- LAB Enterprises - orders@xxxxxx Read our blog with links to all our stores at www.Labeshops.com |

| | Re: windows contacts versus live mail contacts? Evidently you are running on a Vista computer. WLM doesn't use Vista's Contacts (Windows Mail does). I would not attempt to remove Windows Contacts since it is part of the Vista OS. There is no automatic sync mechanism, but you can export/import from Windows Contacts to WLM Contacts, and vice versa. -- Gary VanderMolen [MS-MVP WLM] "LAB Enterprises" <orders@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:256E26B8-567D-49A3-B908-F2BA1005B3EE@xxxxxx Quote: >I just noticed an icon in my start menu for "windows contacts". | | Re: windows contacts versus live mail contacts? Yes I'm on Vista (thought WLM was only on Vista?), so what are the Vista's contacts used for then if not for email? Seems a waste of space to me. Also, in WLM am I missing how to display a contact by company name instead of by persons name? I'm having to put the company name in "first name" and the persons name in Company name so the contact will show up by the company instead of by name. There must be an easier way. In outlook and OE I think you could always set a "display as". I'm not seeing that here. | | Re: windows contacts versus live mail contacts? Hi, Lori. Quote: > Yes I'm on Vista (thought WLM was only on Vista?), But: OE runs on WinXP, not on Vista. WM runs on Vista, not on WinXP. WLM runs on both! OE and WM are integral parts of WinXP and Vista. WLM is an installable application. WLM can run side-by-side with OE or WM, as appropriate. In fact, since OE/WM cannot (by mere mortals) be uninstalled, everybody running WLM also has either OE or WM installed, too. Good old Microsoft! ;^} WLM is part of Windows Live, which Microsoft would like us all to run on everything, I think. So far, the only "Live" product I'm using is Windows Live Mail. RC -- R. C. | | Re: windows contacts versus live mail contacts? Not quite sure what you're trying to do. Where do you want a contact to "show up"? If you want to sort your contacts by company, then that's quite possible. E.g. open Contacts (Ctrl-Shift-C), select View > List view and Show preview pane. You'll probably see three data columns. Right click on each column in turn and choose what you want to appear in that column. Then left click to sort by that column. But you'll soon learn that it's much quicker and simpler just to start typing a name (like a company name) in the To: field of a new email - the more you type, the shorter the list of possible candidates. Select the one(s) you want and away you go. -- Noel "LAB Enterprises" <orders@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:2C163EA8-64E2-4605-9082-B391CAD30DA9@xxxxxx Quote: > Yes I'm on Vista (thought WLM was only on Vista?), so what are the Vista's > contacts used for then if not for email? | | Re: windows contacts versus live mail contacts? Ah thanks. Didn't know about the list view - makes it somewhat easier though now I have to re-edit all my contacts and put the company name back in company field. and yes, auto complete is faster - when the name is showing. but a lot of my imported contacts didn't import correctly so I'm ending up typing a lot of them in manually and couldn't get it to sort by company name in the regular tiled view. Thanks again Lori "Ildhund" <jnllb@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:u9WWRH2QIHA.3676@xxxxxx Quote: > Not quite sure what you're trying to do. Where do you want a contact to > "show up"? | | Re: windows contacts versus live mail contacts? I have a question somewhat related to this. I'm trying to help a friend but do not se Windows Mail nor Vista. I'm still on XP. Anyway, when they go to create a new Email they do not see a list of Contacts within the Message area. They can find an Address Book, but that's a second window. Is there a readily-accessible Contacts List directly within the Message window? Or can they click on the "To:" icon to bring it up? How do they pul an address from their Address Book into the To: entry line? Thanks, Guy Owen "Gary VanderMolen" wrote: Quote: > Evidently you are running on a Vista computer. > WLM doesn't use Vista's Contacts (Windows Mail does). > I would not attempt to remove Windows Contacts since it is > part of the Vista OS. | | Re: windows contacts versus live mail contacts? Contacts are stored in a separate folder, they are not/can not be shown on the main page.
