WM newbie - error message on startup

Hi,

I am new to Windows Mail. I get the message below every time I launch WM.
The app seems to work just fine though. How do I correct it?
---------
Account: 'news.free.fr (1)', Server: 'news.free.fr', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: '200 news-1.free.fr (8-2) NNRP Service Ready -
newsmaster@xxxxxx (posting ok)', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server
Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90
---------

Thanks

kh

Re: WM newbie - error message on startup

It looks like you have a POP3 Mail account (which uses port 110) set up to
connect to a news server (which uses port 119). Delete the account from the
Folder pane in Mail view, then switch to Newsgroups view (Ctrl-W) and "Add a
newsgroup account" to set up your news.free.fr connection.

Re: WM newbie - error message on startup

Hi, kh.

In addition to Ildhund's advice...

Despite the very similar names, Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail (formerly
Windows Live Mail desktop, until last May, thus the not-yet-changed name of
this newsgroup) are different programs. Windows Mail is an integral part of
every copy of Vista. Windows Live Mail is part of the Windows Live family.
Many of us who have tried WLM like it better than WM and have switched.
(They can be run side by side so that we can compare them.) If you'd like
to give WLM a spin, download it (and other Live programs if you like) at
this website:
http://get.live.com/wl/all

For peer-to-peer support for Windows Mail, go to the OTHER newsgroup:
microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail
