Message Rules

Have tried to set up rules using Actions:Create rule from message to block
posts from specific users. Highlight a message, click Actions:Create....
The rule pops up and automatically checks the "where the From line" box and
inserts the the senders name in the description box. I check the Delete box
and Save. I get "Rule saved", but next time I go to that group, there are
new messages from the same source. Any ideas on why my rules aren't being
applied?

Also, when I go to Tools, Message Rules and use the Apply now button, it
says rule applied, but nothing happens. In OE it would remove all of the
messages from that sender and block any new ones. Live Mail is doing
neither.

Looking at the basics...

You have confirmed that there is a checkmark in the box to the left of
each rule?
You are using the rules with a POP3 account?

All the appropriate check boxes are checked. Have no idea if it's a POP3
account or not. When I set up accounts in both WLM and Windows Mail they
ask for and show POP3 for mail accounts, but neither asks or shows what kind
of account for news accounts. BTW, the create rule from message steps are
the same in Windows Mail and in WLM (Vista Home Premium) and they seem to be
working in Windows Mail.

In the actions box where you select "delete" also make sure you have checked
"stop processing more rules". Important this is done for each rule

See if that helps

Re: Message Rules

Don't know whether WLM rules work the same way as WinMail rules but ...

Unless I click Tools/Synchronise all; messages do not download until I enter
the NG. It seems that every 10 minutes (the time set in
Tools/Options/General) only the number of unD/L Unread messages is recorded.

When I enter a NG all messages download, although if I try to open a ruled
out message, I get a Message unavailable pane.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely
foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Never did the last thing you mentioned, but it now appears the rules are
working. Maybe it just needed a shut down and restart of the program or
the computer, but for whatever reason, I'm no longer getting posts from the
people I blocked.

Thanks for the help.
