wlm accounts to windows mail vista

I have about 7 or 8 Accounts which I wanted to transfer from WLM to Windows
Mail in Vista. I chose 'export' and everything exported fine into each
account's respective .iaf file.

However, when I chose 'import' from Windows Mail's function, I got an error
for every single .iaf file.

Can I not import account settings this way? Is there another way?

Thanks in advance,
Russel

Vista's Windows Mail does not provide a direct import of WLM export

Vista's Windows Mail does not provide a direct import of WLM export
files..

This explains it. Hope somebody agrees that backward integration (or
downward integration) is as important as forward or upward integration and
allows a "direct import of WLM export files" in the future.

Russel

Re: wlm accounts to windows mail vista

You're welcome.
You are correct ..that option should be avaialble..either by updating
Windows Mail[WM] or Windows Live Mail[WLM] or both.

There are other options if you've access to another pc with OE.
Vista's WM appears to work fine importing OE's *.iaf files.

Additionally WLM can export the entire accounts folder structure including
messages to an empty folder on ones hard drive. Those *.eml messages can
then be accessed(they will be in subfolders by each WLM email account
folder(e.g. inbox etc) and then dragged into Vista's WM folders(default or
user created).

Once dragged in they will retain To, From, Subject, Sent, Date etc...

To export messages in WLM for each account(File/Export/Messages, follow the
prompts)

Re: wlm accounts to windows mail vista

Once again, many thanks, Winston. I managed to export the accounts folder,
and get all messages in WM. However, I have seven or eight accounts and I
don't want to set up each one on WM. I thought it would be easier to export
the Account _Settings_ to .iaf files and import them in WM. However...

Russel

Re: wlm accounts to windows mail vista

Russel,
You're welcome. Glad to hear the messages transfer went fine.

As far as those iaf files..maybe in the future WM will handle WLM iaf
files or a WLM export will be modified to accommodate WM. I suspect
WLM
is the culprit since WM handles OE files.
