default email client

There is a tug of war running constantly on my computer. The new Live Mail is
my chosen client for my Hotmail account; I have a different preferred client
for my Verizon account. I have set Windows Live Mail to "not default," but it
keeps trying to take control of .eml files from my preferred client.
(WinPatrol informs me of this attempted switch.) Is there a way to tell Live
Mail to lay off?

I assume you choose the default from IE|tools|internet
options|programs?

From my experience, once you install the WLM, all .eml files would
become irreversible defaulted to WLM. The most horrible thing is even
after you un-install WLM, the default still persists and all
these .eml files cannot be opened by any other client by default.

Re: default email client

Thanks for the responses. I am operating on XP Service Pack 2. I did set the
default through Programs under Internet Options. It sounds as though the
reason I can still use my preferred client is that WinPatrol alerts me to the
change and allows me to reject it. Still, one can hope.... Anyone have
further ideas?

Re: default email client

FYI...removal of WLM in Vista should restore Vista Windows Mail as the
default *.eml handler, as does changing defaults for the *.eml file in
Vista's Set Program Access and Defaults to WM.
