Re: Message Rules

What's wrong with 'Add sender to blocked senders' list', which seems to do
precisely what you want? You'll have to delete the first message yourself,
but you shouldn't see any more messages from that address except perhaps in
your Junk e-mail folder. You get the option by right-clicking on a message
in the Message list and selecting 'Junk e-mail'. This only applies to POP3
mail, but since you've been laboriously creating rules, I assume it's a POP
account you're referring to.

That said, there is a limit (250?) to the number of blocked senders you can
have in your list. Spammers tend to use 'throwaway' addresses - use once,
then never again, just to ensure that blocking won't affect their evil
habit. One good way to invite spam is to display your real e-mail address in
public newsgroups like this one. Spammers use robots to trawl through
newsgroups, fora and websites looking for addresses to spam. It's easy
enough to 'munge' your address to spoil their fun, so I do recommend you to
do it.

Lastly, pressing F1 never broke anything, and would have told you how to
block senders...

Re: Message Rules

Setting up message rules for garden variety spam is an exercise
in futility. Spammers seldom use the same 'From' address twice.

You probably have not been very careful about when and where you reveal your
email address. Comcast allows you up to 6 different email addresses. I
suggest you replace your current address with a new one and don't give it
out indiscriminately. That includes not using your real email address when
posting to newsgroups. For websites that ask for your address and you are
not absolutely certain of their policy of sharing it, use a "throw a way"
web mail account like Yahoo. You can always go back to the site and change
the address to your primary one.
