How to backup Windows Live Mails and Contacts

I want to backup my Windows Live Mails and Contacts to an other harddisk on
my computer and/or to an other computer (laptop) on my network.

How is it done with help of synchronize (replication)?

How is it done with help of the briefcase?

I want above to happen automatically.

RE: How to backup Windows Live Mails and Contacts

Does windows live use the windows address book for contacts? I may have to
upgrade to WL from outlook express because my ISP now wants to use settings
that OE is not capable of. I am using xp pro. Thanks

I am curious. What "settings that OE is not capable of" are you talking about?

Re: How to backup Windows Live Mails and Contacts

Here is a copy of my email I sent out to various places:

I use Outlook Express version 6.00.2900.2180.(xpsp_sp2_rtm 040803-2158).
XP PRO SERVICE PACK 2

SBCGOLBAL.NET has changed their settings to using (on the advanced mode) to
have

“This server requires a secure connection SSL checked and the ports to SMPT
465 and the POP3 port to 995.”

When I do that I get the following error message:

“Your server you are connected to is using a security certificate that could
not be verified. The certificate’s CN name does not match the passed value.”

Is there an updated Outlook Express or a patch that I can install to bring
it up to date so I can use the new settings ?

Re: How to backup Windows Live Mails and Contacts

The server names have changed, too, from what I can gather on Google. That
would explain why the names don't match. Check the instructions again.

RE: How to backup Windows Live Mails and Contacts

I'm using XP pro sp2 en on a desk coputer and XP home sp2 swe on a laptop
computer.

I want to do as follows:

1. Read and write messages on both computers

2. Have contacts and messages up to date all the time

How do I do it?

Re: How to backup Windows Live Mails and Contacts

Hi Johan.
Well if you sign into WLMail with your Windows Live account, you can have the contacts for that account available to your other computer simply by signing into WLMail with the same account on the other computer.
If you use an IMAP e-mail account, or a Hotmail account for your e-mail, all your messages in that account will be synchronised with the server and available on your other computer. If you use a POP account for your e-mail, you should (not always so simple) be able to download your messages to both computers by checking the option at Tools->Accounts...->Properties->Advanced [tab]: "Leave a copy of messages on server", or if you prefer: "Remove from server after 'n' day(s)." Also check the option "Remove from server when deleted from 'Deleted Items'." With a POP account however, your sent items will not be synchronised between both computers, so you will have to manually save a copy of each sent item external to WLMail, and then drag it onto the WLMail interface of your other computer.

Re: How to backup Windows Live Mails and Contacts

Peter r.
That replay is not an essy aone, and also not realla wanted one. for
example, i downloaded all messges and if i now use the mark for leave
messgaes on server, it will only leve the new messages there, not the one's i
have on my
pc and buying a backup progrm for this would be absurd, where's microsoft's
solutoion and where ar other freeware alwaýs to use programs to backup
properly windows live mail, messages, etc?

or, is there perhaps an option to again import all messages back ikto
hotmail online?

(i am afraid not, bu t who Knows..?)
