| | Need info on spam filtering I use the message rules to do much of my spam filtering, do the message rules get applied before or after the programs built in spam filter? Also, does the program's built in spam filter work only on Microsoft accounts or other ISP's POP3 accounts as well? |

| | Re: Need info on spam filtering Rules get applied first. I say this because all my incoming POP mail is diverted by rules to folders under the default account, and all my POP spam is delivered to that account's junk folder. So, yes, the built-in filter works on POP accounts. -- Noel "Jay" <jmox@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:F4FCD627-3734-417B-8650-79A9D3501C15@xxxxxx Quote: > I use the message rules to do much of my spam filtering, do the message > rules get applied before or after the programs built in spam filter? | | Re: Need info on spam filtering Hmmm, strange thing is I found 100s of emails in the built in "Junk e-mail" folder of a POP account indicating they got their due to WLM built in spam filtering but it sounds like your saying they should have been diverted into my own "junk" type folder due to my message rules. I just applied the relevant "junk" message rules to the "Junk e-mail" folder and they were moved into my own junk folder like I believe they should have been in the first place. Confused ... | | Re: Need info on spam filtering I can only report what I am seeing. My set-up is quite complex (18 POP accounts and five HTTP, 27 message rules) and it works almost perfectly*. I have the junk filter on High. None of my rules are designed to trap spam - I reckon that the Outlook filtering engine that WLMail uses will do the job better. Two points to remember: the order in which rules are applied is vital, and unless there's a good reason not to do so, each rule should end with Stop processing more rules. Try ensuring that all mail is diverted to folders outside the account it's delivered to - so after moving messages from family to the Family folder and ones about tennis to the Tennis folder, the next rule could move messages received on a particular account to a Miscellaneous folder. That way the only messages in "sub-account" folders will be in Sent items, which you can clear up periodically, and you can leave those sub-account folder branches collapsed and pretty well ignore them. *"Almost perfectly" means that there's occasionally legitimate mail in my junk folder, but that's usually because I need to refine my rules a bit. Very rarely does spam end up in another folder. -- Noel "Jay" <jmox@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:uMBCYUXWIHA.484@xxxxxx Quote: > Hmmm, strange thing is I found 100s of emails in the built in "Junk > e-mail" folder of a POP account indicating they got their due to WLM built > in spam filtering but it sounds like your saying they should have been > diverted into my own "junk" type folder due to my message rules. | | Re: Need info on spam filtering I have a similar problem: e-mail from my reegular contacts are not passed on as spam when using Outlook or Thunderbird (filters have been trained). However, in WLM, 9 out of 10 goes straight to the Deleted Items folder. I have told the system for over a week now that the sender's e-mail and the sender's domain should be added to the Safe Sender/Safe domain list. I have also added their addresses to my contacts. My spam setting was at high, now I have moved it to low. But nothing helps: it still goes straight to my Deleted ietms folder. Can anyone give me a few pointers? Or this a "feature" :-) -- "Hagar" "Ildhund" wrote: Quote: > I can only report what I am seeing. | | Re: Need info on spam filtering Is this an HTTP or IMAP account or a POP3 account? If it's HTTP, you should check the junk e-mail settings at the web interface. If they are set to, for example, Standard filtering and delete Immediately, then when the account synchronizes, anything found to be junk will end up in your local Deleted items folder. You can also check your entire Safe senders list there, including domains and senders whose address starts with a number, which WLMail for some reason does not show. If it's a POP account, do you have any message rules that could cause this behaviour? -- Noel "WickedViking" <WickedViking@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:A321649C-33AF-42C8-A46A-21B9A84C5FB6@xxxxxx Quote: > I have a similar problem: e-mail from my reegular contacts are not passed > on > as spam when using Outlook or Thunderbird (filters have been trained). > However, in WLM, 9 out of 10 goes straight to the Deleted Items folder. | | Re: Need info on spam filtering "Also trust e-mail from my Contacts" is checked. All accounts are POP accounts, I do not have any message rules. Spam settings at the web interface are set to "move to Junk Mail folder". But all the contacts in question are white-listed in the web interface. -- "Hagar" "Peter.R" wrote: Quote: > Are the following options checked or unchecked? > > Tools->Safety options...->Safe Senders [tab]->"Also trust e-mail from my > Contacts" > > Tools->Safety options...->Options [tab]->"Permanently delete suspected > junk e-mail instead of moving it into the Junk E-mail folder" > > -- > Cheers, > Peter > (Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows Live Mail 12.0.1606) > "There are more things in Heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in > your philosophy." - Shakespeare > --------------- > > "WickedViking" <WickedViking@xxxxxx> wrote in message > news:A321649C-33AF-42C8-A46A-21B9A84C5FB6@xxxxxx > Quote: > > I have a similar problem: e-mail from my reegular contacts are not Quote: > > as spam when using Outlook or Thunderbird (filters have been trained). > > However, in WLM, 9 out of 10 goes straight to the Deleted Items folder.
