LM grinds to a halt reading Newsgroups

Vista Ultimate 64 bit

I'm using Live Mail as a news reader for groups such as these. When I open
LM and select a Newsgroup, the screen goes dim, and can take up to 20
minutes to come back with an active screen. Is there a solution for this? -
Help Appreciated, IM

Re: LM grinds to a halt reading Newsgroups

Hi, Imageman.

Twenty MINUTES!? Bummer! :>(

Are you on dial-up? Does this happen with ALL newsgroups, or just large
ones? Do you have your antivirus set to screen news messages?

Those factors are all I can think of that might cause such a long delay, and
all 3 would have to be working at once, I think. And you probably would
have to have your Sync settings to All Messages, not just Headers only.

If you give us more details, something might ring a bell: Which news server
do you use? Do you connect directly to the MS public news server
(msnews.microsoft.com)? Are you behind any kind of proxy or firewall (other
than the Vista firewall)?

Re: LM grinds to a halt reading Newsgroups

R.C. - I'm on Comcast cable, GigaNews News Server, and I use yProxy because
I run into yEnk files when on photography groups. I use Avast antivirus, and
I don't see a choice for screening news messages or not. There is a setting
to exclude programs from checking, so I could make LM an exception, but I
think that's dangerous?

I also use Newsbin news reader, and it's lightening fast, with none of the
problems I'm having with LM. I couldn't find sync settings, and when I
opened LM help it came up in a foreign language? Help appreciated! - Bob
