Newsgroup highlights previous days posting on opening

I think this may have been discussed before, but this time when I opened this newsgroup, WLM highlighted the previous days posting even though there are 9 unread messages for the current day listed in front of it. I thought it was only missing the first couple three?

Re: Newsgroup highlights previous days posting on opening

update on this one, I went to another newsgroup that I don't remember ever going before and WLM highlighted a post for 12/07/07 even though there were hundreds of later unread messages listed first?

Re: Newsgroup highlights previous days posting on opening

Try changing your sort field and sort order (e.g. Alt-V,b,...) if you want to change
the selected message in a view which does not contain the last viewed message.

>Mr. Aldwinckle,
Pardon my butting into someone else's thread but I have the same
problem. However, I don't understand your answer. My settings, under View,
Current view are "show all messages" and "view by conversation". In View,
Sort by, the settings are "sent" and "sort descending". The "sort
descending" would seem to me to mean sort from the latest date. Apparently
it does not.
I realize you are probably giving enough information for someone
familiar with newsreaders but due to Microsoft's decision to not include any
type of tutorial with WLM (and the use of the newsreader) I simply don't
have a clue as to what you are explaining. Hell, I don't know the meaning of
half the entries under the menu bar headings.
I am tired of being such a pest, asking "what does this mean", "how do
I", "where can I find", etc, etc, etc. I'm sure the experienced newsgroup
participants simply wish I would go away. When I post a question It makes me
look stupid and when I continue to ask for more information it makes me look
like a moron. It is humiliating.
Thank you for your time.

My answer would have been addressing specifically the the latest addition
to the OP's symptom description:

Is that your case too? If not, please describe more clearly what you are seeing
*and* how you think it got that way. E.g. some apparent misordering may be due
to adding new messages to an old view. Also, if the newsgroup has been visited before
(e.g. if the message which was previously selected is still visible in the current view)
the message selected is not necessarily going to be the one that would be chosen
the first time a newsgroup was opened. Finally, especially when your sort order
is descending, if you want to be positioned at the latest unread post,
I think it would be a good idea to switch off Group messages by conversation;
otherwise it is quite understandable that later messages might appear below
the one you get positioned at.

>Mr. Aldwinckle,
Thank you for your reply. I appreciate your assistance. My problem is
that when I open WLM and select newsgroups, and click on a specific
newsgroup, the messages open at an earlier date. In other words, if today is
02/12/2008 and I open newsgroups and select the WLM newsgroup, the group
messages window opens showing a thread started 02/10/2008, with the newer
threads listed above it. I just don't understand why the window opens and
scrolls down, showing an earlier posting instead of the latest one. The
earlier thread shown is not one that I created previously and it is not a
reply from me or to me.
It doesn't bother me and I am not looking for a solution. I simply
don't understand why it opens in this manner. Just curious.
As for my View settings, the settings I mentioned were the default
settings upon installation of WLM. I didn't change them because I am still
trying to understand what they mean. I have since changed them. Under View,
Current view I deselected "Show all messages" and selected "Show downloaded
messages". I also unchecked "View by conversation", but this setting was
automatically
reset and rechecked by the application. I don't know why.
I suppose, with trial and error, I will someday understand everything.
I am still in the process of reading all prior postings to the WLM
newsgroup. I will continue until I reach the very first one listed. I will
then start on the Windows Mail newsgroup and research those threads back to
the very first one listed since some of those threads will undoubtably
(undoubtedly?) apply to WLM also.
Again, thank you for the help.

C.B.
