Downgrading back to XP and OE

After nearly one year of trying to become a "fan," I have given up on Vista
and have bought a new disk for my laptop and installed XP on it. I need to
bring back all the emails from WLM Beta on my Vista hard disk. I assume it
will be an import into OE on the XP disk.

When I locate my email data files on the Vista disk (mounted externally via
USB), the filenames are not evident unless I double click on each file. An
example of a single message is a file named 00107FF2-0000014.eml. This might
make it difficult to manage importing my various files and folders in OE?
Should I just trust that I can import them and they will show up with
readable message info?

Also, all my contacts reside in a Contacts folder with *.Contract files.
Will I be able to import them into a .WAB?

If anyone has any tips as to how to do this, I would appreciate hearing from
you.

TIA.

Re: Downgrading back to XP and OE

I think the eml messages can be dropped into OE.
The name will be changed from a number to a name.
If you have updated to the latest WLM, you can export the contacts as a csv
file and import into OE.

Re: Downgrading back to XP and OE

You do realise that Windows Live Mail works on XP as well as Vista
don't you? By the way, WLMail is out of beta now (12.0.1606).

Re: Downgrading back to XP and OE

No, I did not realize that WLM would work on XP. I'll give that a try
because I have had no luck importing the WLM emails into OE. I can't export
the emails because the Vista drive will no longer boot. It works fine as a
USB external drive so my data is intact.

I am wondering what the advantage of WLM over OE is?

Re: Downgrading back to XP and OE

Well, I can offer a couple of observations.

The first thing I notice is that WLM takes a lot longer to begin than OE.
OE was nearly instantaneous but WLM definitely takes quite a few seconds on
the same machine.

One big advantage for someone downgrading from Vista to XP, if you have
already trashed the Vista disk (that's why I changed) you can copy the email
data files directly from the Vista disk to the XP disk but OE will not read
the WLM/Vista files or allow them to be inported but WLM/XP directly reads
them.

I think I am back in business on WLM/XP.
