Windows Live Mail & Problem with hotmail address

HELP!!!!!
I have a new laptop with windows vista on it. I have a windows live mail
account that uses (account name)@hotmail.com to sign in.

My problem is that when I try to set up accounts with some websites or other
servers they will not allow me to use the @hotmail.com, because they no
longer support the http with hotmail.

They say they accept windows live mail, but they won't accept mine.

What do I do? How can I get an email address they will accept?

Re: Windows Live Mail & Problem with hotmail address

Vista includes Windows Mail(WM).
- it is not capable of handling http accounts

Windows Live Mail is a separate email client and available at
http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

Note: Windows Live Mail replaces the shortcuts for Vista's WM and will
be the default application post install.

It's unclear what you mean by using hotmail.com to setup accounts at
other web sites.

Re: Windows Live Mail & Problem with hotmail address

It's unclear what you are trying to do.

Can you give us an example?
Do you mean that when you create a username on some sites, it won't accept a
Hotmail email address?
What sites?

Re: Windows Live Mail & Problem with hotmail address

Thanks for your help. I had a membership at butterfly download network but
it's been a year and I can't find my username and password to loggin. There
site won't allow me to get customer support without an email address and they
won't accept my hotmail address. They SAID that Windows live mail will work,
and I already had that set up, but my username or ID is
(somename@xxxxxx). Either I need to find out the address on windows live
mail or I'm screwed. Would it be Somename@xxxxxx\windows.live? Or can
I use Somename@xxxxxx, or is it @windows.live.mail??

I hope this is a little clearer

Re: Windows Live Mail & Problem with hotmail address

The only format for email addresses for all accounts issued by Microsoft/MSn
for Live ID's is:
username@xxxxxx
or
username@xxxxxx
or
username@xxxxxx

Windows Live Mail is an email client.
To logon to any Windows Live service you need to know the email address of
the above form and the password.

To send and receive mail in Windows Live Mail, the same requirements need be
met.

I think you meant one of those two @msn.com to be @live.com. :-)

Re: Windows Live Mail & Problem with hotmail address

.... not forgetting all manner of regional variations like @live.nl or
@hotmail.co.uk. I don't know of any @msn variants, though.

Re: Windows Live Mail & Problem with hotmail address

Do you use Vista? If not, please disregard.
That sounds like Windows Mail is opening up when you click on a mailto link,
instead of Windows Live Mail. Go to "Start" - "Default Programs" - "Set
your default programs".
highlight "Windows Live Mail", then click on "Choose defaults for this
program".
click on "Select all" to make sure the MAILTO is selected
click on "Save"
