windows live mail and anchor links

A month or so ago I switched to Vista and had to move from OE to Windows Live
Mail. That was no problem, however forum subscription emails and giving me
trouble.

subscription emails come with anchors to move to the page to the relevant
post, but for some reason when I click on them and they open in Firefox the
anchor disappears. Is there a setting somewhere that i can't find that
defines this behavior.

For example this link:
http://eltworld.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=9294#9294
will end up rendering as

http://eltworld.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=9294
notice the missing #9294

When I click links directly from hotmail.com (in my browser) everything
works correctly, the problem only happens when using the desktop version of
windows live mail.

Any ideas?

Re: windows live mail and anchor links

I tested your links and get the same problem you described with IE7. You have just revealed a bug in WLMail 1606.

We have known for a while now that WLMail cannot handle the '#' symbol in links to newsgroup posts (Microsoft Communities as default news account) such as: news:eZBGlg#YIHA.5396@xxxxxx which is a link to one of my posts in this newsgroup. It does not work from within WLMail or when pasted into the IE7 address field, but replace '#' with '%23' and it works, such as: news:eZBGlg%23YIHA.5396@xxxxxx

You will just have to work around it with 'Copy Shortcut' and 'Paste' or something for the time being.
