Corruption.

I've had WLM for a month or two now, and I never had a problem with it since
tonight.

Every time I try to open WLM a message pops up saying:
"Windows Live Mail could not be started. The application was unable to open
the Windows Live Mail message store. Windows Live Mail was unable to locate
its message database. If you've moved the database files to a new location,
click OK to reset the database path to that location. Otherwise, click Cancel
to proceed, any existing messages found will be available under Orphaned
Accounts. (0x00000000)"

I click Cancel because I didn't touch anything. Then it says:
"Windows Live Mail could not be started. The application was unable to open
the Windows Live Mail message store. Your computer may be out of memory or
your disk is full. (0x8000FFF, 1400)

The whole program now shuts down, leaving me with:
"Windows Live Mail could not be started because msmail.dll could not be
initialized. Windows Live Mail may not be installed correctly."

***
I re-installed the program several times, but the same message continues to
pop up. I don't know what's wrong.

Re: Corruption.

It could be that a necessary file in the WLMail Message Store is corrupted, or it could be that in the registry, the path to the Message Store has been corrupted.

In the registry, the path to WLMail's Message Store is located at the Value "Store Root" within the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail so you can have a look at that to see what it says.

However, when you try to start WLMail you could try pointing it to the Message Store in its default location.
The default location for WLMail's Message Store is:

Vista: (C:\Users\<Windows user account>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail)

XP: (C:\Documents and Settings\<windows user account>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail)

If WLMail still errors out when you point it to the Message Store, there may well be a corrupted file in the Message Store. In that case, you should rename the Message Store folder to "Windows Live Mail (old)" and then restart WLMail. WLMail should then start successfully and recreate the Message Store.

The Message Store in its default location is a hidden folder, so ensure "Show hidden files and folders" is checked under Folder Options in Windows Explorer.

In that case, you will need to set up your accounts again and import your messages if necessary. Messages can also be imported directly from your old renamed Message Store by dragging them onto the WLMail interface, or by using the File->Import->Messages->Windows Live Mail option and pointing it to your old renamed Message Store folder.
