| Guest | Update for Windows Live Sign-In Assistant (KB 947449) XP Pro SP2 The above is an optional update offered in MS Updates. Apparently allows you to view all your WLM accounts when you sign in to IE7. Haven't installed it yet. If all it does is open WLM when you launch IE7, I wont bother. Anybody know anything more? Tried getting further info but "Page is unavailable at the moment" - it figures. |

compacted without having to disable the sign-in feature. | ||||||||||||

| Guest | Re: Update for Windows Live Sign-In Assistant (KB 947449) I think the point is that is allows you to link multiple Live/Passport accounts. When you sign into one, it signs into all others. "Smirnoff" <someone@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:07DA5E3C-91D6-42E9-9F82-6ED31691DC16@xxxxxx

| Guest | Re: Update for Windows Live Sign-In Assistant (KB 947449) Hi, I installed it, ...Vgood it looks like the LOG-on screen of XP pro, shows you all the Possible users for Looging in. I want to add that i am in the middle of an issue where IE 7 locks up one or two tabs on me....I might be UNinstalling , still working on the add-ons.... "osu9400" wrote:

| Guest | Re: Update for Windows Live Sign-In Assistant (KB 947449) Thanks for the feedback. I'm still confused though, also with osu9400's comment. When I open WLM, it signs in and looks for messages on: BT Yahoo Mail (with sub-accounts ***@btinternet.com) Hotmail (the old one ***@hotmail .com) and Windows Live (****@live.co.uk) i.e. it already does it. I know this update relates to the opening of IE7 but why would you need it if WLM does it anyway and you are the sole user? | Guest | Re: Update for Windows Live Sign-In Assistant (KB 947449) I may have the answer to my own question. As I am the sole user, I have auto login in set up. Therefore, I don't see any log in options at all, comp goes straight to Desktop after boot up. As stated, WLM logs into and looks for messages in ALL my accounts. This may be because I already had the earlier version of Sign in Assistant. There were no options available in IE7 to pick a specific user log in (i.e. @hotmail. com or @live .co.uk) I installed the new version anyway (can always uninstall) but still don't see any options in IE7. Auto log in is probably the reason. "Smirnoff" <someone@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:30456192-00B2-4083-B37D-2291A65F81D6@xxxxxx

| Guest | Re: Update for Windows Live Sign-In Assistant (KB 947449) I think you're barking up the wrong tree. The Sign-in Assistant seems to have been invented to solve the problem many of us had in earlier Live days, when you could only log in to Live services with one ID at a time, for example, Messenger and Mail or Hotmail and Spaces. From KB943595: "Sign in assistant This Windows Internet Explorer add-in will help make the sign-in experience faster and more convenient if you have more than one Windows Live ID. A key feature gives you the ability for to save multiple credentials on your computer. These multiple accounts are shown as a list on the sign-in page. You can even save your password for each of your accounts. This eliminates the need to re-type your password every time that you want to change your identity!" The WLMail sign-in has no bearing on mail retrieval or synchronization. The accounts that are checked are those associated with your Windows log on. The Sign-in identifies which Live contacts to synchronize and which Messenger ID to log on with if you use the launch icon in the bottom left hand corner. The KB article is available again, but it doesn't say much. I suspect the update is just refining the older version. | Guest | Re: Update for Windows Live Sign-In Assistant (KB 947449) Er, I THINK I understand you. Are we talking Windows Live MESSENGER here? If I open LMessenger, I get all my Live ID's in a pull down menu. Can't see any links in IE7. Don't get a sign in page in IE7. Please have patience with this confused soul. | Guest | Re: Update for Windows Live Sign-In Assistant (KB 947449) My earlier comment about auto log in may apply. I realise now that it is the Windows sign in page that is supposed to have ID's listed, not IE7's. As I am the sole user, I got fed up with logging in each time. Went to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315231 After following the instructions, Windows kindly added at the BOTTOM, that there is NO NEED TO ALTER THE REGISTRY in XP Pro to enable auto log in (how pitiful). So, presumably I wont see the options of the add in as I DO have auto log in. Don't feel like messing around with the registry again. | Guest | Re: Update for Windows Live Sign-In Assistant (KB 947449) I can see and understand your confusion! We are talking about (at least) two different things. When you start your computer, you have to tell WindowsXP who you are so that Windows can load your own personal settings and display *your* documents and *your* e-mail as opposed to someone else's. Since you're the sole user, this is fairly academic except as regards security - anyone starting your computer now will have access to all your files. Telling WindowsXP who you are is called *logging* on (or in). The other thing is using Windows *Live* services. To get the most out of these - which include WLMail, WLMessenger, Hotmail, Spaces and lots of other things - you have to *sign* in with a Windows Live ID, which might be your Hotmail address. If you have more than one Live ID, Windows *Live* might get just as confused as you if you use more than one of them at the same time. So they invented the Windows Live Sign-in Assistant to sort out that confusion. This is advertised as an add-in to IE, because using most Live services involves using your browser. If you go to live.com and click the sign-in button, you will see the page you have been looking for where your Live IDs are listed. That little word Live is very important! -- Noel "Smirnoff" <someone@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:560579E5-FFC1-4A26-9B3A-F26351BAB028@xxxxxx
