Managed Accounts?

I recently installed windows Live on my daughter's laptop (Vista). When I
try to setup her @msn.com email address, I get an error message that this is
a managed account and she cannot send/receive email. Is there any work
around for this? if not, is there a hotmail/msn tool to forward mail to a
new address that I may create with using @live.com?

I use XP and have had no problems. The ISP was Verizon with MSN Premium,
but the kids never signed into it, they just jumped right on to IE7, so I
needed the family safety with Live.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Managed Accounts?

More info needed.

The isp 'was' Verizon ?
- does that mean the MSn Premium account at Verizon was cancelled ?
If not, have you visited the Verizon site and configured the sub-account for
email access.
http://netservices.verizon.net/porta...48&objId=22830
- the site also has a link for a tutorial on setting up the account after
enabling email access.

Can you access the child's account ?

Hotmail can forward messages sent to the account after enabling forwarding
but not messages already present--those must be done manually.
-Sign in to the Windows Live Hotmail website with your Windows Live ID (The
user name and password that you use to sign in to any Windows Live, MSN, or
Office Live sites and services. If you have a Passport Network, Hotmail, or
Messenger account, you can use it as your Windows Live ID.) .
-In the upper-right corner of the page, click Options, and then click More
options.
-Under Manage your account, click Forward mail to another e-mail account.
-On the Forwarding page, click Forward your mail to another e-mail address.
-In the address field, type the e-mail address where you want to forward
your e-mail to, and then click Save.
-Sign in to the e-mail account that you want to forward your e-mail to, open
the e-mail message that asks you to verify your account, and then follow the
on-screen instructions.

Is email account management(access) still required ?
- iirc only a premium account provides that option

Is 'Family Safety from Windows Live One Care' installed on the XP and Vista
machine ?

If you've created a new Live ID, after FSWLOC is installed on each machine,
access from your machine and configure it for the other Live ID's.
If a new Live is not created, use this link
http://www.windowslive.com/freshstart.html
- click on the 'Get you new Windows Live ID now' link

Note:'Family Safety from Windows Live One Care' and [Windows Live One Care]
are two separate and unique products.

Re: Managed Accounts?

Sorry about that, the ISP still is Verizon, just we no longer use the MSN
Premium browser. Nothing was cancelled, we just uninstalled the MSN premium
software to use Verizon with IE7. I would like to use Verizon with Live on
all computers, it works for me on the XP desktop.

I have been trying to set up the subaccounts with @verizon.net, but I keep
getting an error message "There was a problem setting up the subaccount,
please try again later".

I can access her email through msn.com hotmail website (XXX@xxxxxx). I
just can't access it through Windows Live Mail and since she is running
Vista, I cannot use Windows mail (HTTP mail server) or Outlook Express.

I was, however, able to setup an @live.com email for her, so I will try your
suggestion about forwarding her mail.

Family Safety is installed on all computers and seems to be working, but I
cannot find anything in the settings to allow her to use Live mail. There is
a check box that says allow Hotmail use, which is checked, if I un-check,
will it let me set up WLM?

If you have any other suggestions for this, I would appreciate it. Thanks,

Re: Managed Accounts?

Was this account configured to limit access to email in the prior(now
defunct as of Jan 8) MSn Parental Control feature ?

I'm not a user of Verizon, thus unless someone else chimes in on how setup a
sub-account via Verizon(should be done on XP), it might be appropriate to
contact them. Nor do I know if the Verizon branded version of MSn Premium
presence is required to establish a sub-account.

Afaik, there is no setting in FS from WLOC for Windows Live Mail. It also
makes sense to **not** uncheck the 'Allow Hotmail Use' since all Msn Premium
and new Live ID account are http(hotmail) accounts regardless of the
domain(live.com, msn.com, hotmail.com)

Setting up a new Live ID should work fine in Windows Live Mail and still
allow Family Safety control from your machine

Re: Managed Accounts?

Yes, this was originally set up through the MSN Parental control features.

I did contact the Verizon customer support, but they couldn't get the
subaccount feature to work either.

I guess now, I need to know if the @live.com has a "truswitch" program to
notify her old email contacts? I don't know if it will ever work as @msn.com
again. Currently on the hotmail page, there is a note that "This account is
being upgraded".

Thanks so much.

Re: Managed Accounts? RESOLVED!

Thanks for your help, but I figured this out!

I had initially selected to manage my children's contacts. Once I
deselected this box, their mail programs worked. I am still able to add
things to the safe list and blocked list, so all is well.

Thanks again.

Re: Managed Accounts? RESOLVED!

I am having the same problem and also had Verizon with MSN Premium. I have
upgraded to Windows Live.

How did you deselect the box? Where do you go to do this?

Thanks!

Re: Managed Accounts? RESOLVED!

Go to: www.fss.live.com. Log into your account. When your page opens, you
click on your child's name in the left column and the page should open to the
"settings page". From there, you can choose to manage their account or let
the child manage. Once you do this, you will probably get a message that
your settings don't match with the recommendation Pediatric........ but it
will work. This way if you use Windows Live mail, you don't need to change
their email addresses, you can just add the email account like you would with
Outlook. You can still the junk mail and phishing filters to high on the
kid's accounts through verizon or msn (whatever the email server is).

Hope this helps!
