Scanner Link to WLM

Hi, I have a Brother MFC7420 multifunction printer/scanner, and its working
well with my Vista Home Basic.
Initially, I used Windows Mail, and the scanner allowed me to directly scan
docs into an email attached. The Windows Mail dialog box will pop up as soon
as scanning is completed.

Now I have switched to WLM, but the scanner still pops up the Windows Mail
dialog box, not WLM's. I went into the configuration of the scanner software,
which requires me to enter the location of the WLM application.

Pls advise what I should key in so that the scanning to email works with WLM.

Re: Scanner Link to WLM

If looking for the WLM executable.
Look at the properties of the shortcut on the Start Menu or Quick Launch
bar(Rt Click/Properties)
The default location install location is:
"C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe"

Re: Scanner Link to WLM

Try this as the location setting:

C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\smapi.dll

Re: Scanner Link to WLM

I cant speak for other scanners, but I had the same problem with my Canon scanner. To link to WLMail, I added a new Value to the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Canon\CanoScan Toolbox Ver4.1\Devices\MAPI

In that key I found a list of six e-mail programs, where the Values for that key were the numbers 1 to 6 with the Data for each Value simply being the name of an e-mail program. Windows Live Mail was not included in this list, so I added it thus: Right-clicked on the above mentioned key->New->String Value. I named the new Value '7', then double-clicked the new Value and entered 'Windows Live Mail' in the 'Value Data:' field.

I then opened up CanoScan Toolbox and selected the Mail button. I then found 'Windows Live Mail' listed under 'Link scanned images to'->'Set'. After selecting 'Windows Live Mail' under 'Set', I clicked 'Apply'. The path to WLMail was found automatically, which I confirmed by checking the Value data in the registry Value 'EMailData' at the key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Canon\CanoScan Toolbox\4.1.3.6\Data. The path there was now C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\smapi.dll

While I was at it, I added 'Hotmail' to the list as well. I believe the path for the mail clients are taken from the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail

Possibly something similar could be applied to the other scanner software.

Re: Scanner Link to WLM

Rt Click on your WLM shortcut on the Quick Launch or Start Menu to see the
executable for WLM.
The default is:
"C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe"
