How can I import Outlook messages into Live Mail?

The helptext of Live mail states that it should be possible to import
messages from other e-mailprograms on your computer, for example...Microsoft
Outlook Express and Microsoft Outlook...
Currently I run Outlook 2000 and want to migrate to Live Mail. The option
'Outlook' is not available in my import wizard for Live Mail.
The Live Heldpdesk is referring me to the Outlook helpdesk....does anybody
else have a workaround?

Re: How can I import Outlook messages into Live Mail?

Are you using the latest version of Windows Live Mail (12.0.1606)?

Re: How can I import Outlook messages into Live Mail?

You may be running into the same types of problems there are with
importing from Outlook into Windows Mail. There, you have two
choices: 1. Install Outlook, preferably version 2003 or later, so
that Windows Mail can use a part of it to help understand the files
it imports from Outlook. 2. Import the messages first from Outlook
into Outlook Express on your old computer, then import them from
Outlook Express into Windows Mail.

Re: How can I import Outlook messages into Live Mail?

Well, there is something wrong if you can't see "Microsoft Outlook" as an option in the Import Messages Wizard (File->Import->Messages...) in Widows Live Mail 1606. It's certainly there in my WLMail as the following screenshot shows:

Maybe a repair install or an uninstall/reinstall will fix it.

option 2: Importing via Outlook Express worked like a charm. Thanks a lot!!

Re: How can I import Outlook messages into Live Mail?

Hi Peter,
apparently Live Mail did not recognize my Outlook 2000 installation (MS
Support confirmed Live Mail does not support Oulook 2000).
As suggested by Robert Miles, I imported Outlook 2000 into OE 6 and imported
OE6 into Live Mail succesfully.
Thanks for your suggestions, René

Re: How can I import Outlook messages into Live Mail?

You're welcome Rene.

It is interesting that "Microsoft Outlook" appears as an option for me although I haven't got Outlook installed.

It would appear that WLMail has recognised that your version of Outlook is incompatible, so did not offer Outlook as an import option.

Re: How can I import Outlook messages into Live Mail?

Hi Peter,
just to let you know: a week ago I installed a new computer with Vista.
After installing WLM I got the option to import Outlook (without having it
installed). My conclusion is that WLM on XP does not offer the import
Outlook option, whereas WLM on Vitsa does.
Thanks again, René
