Surely, you can't be serious about this post. Outlook Express, did/does
connect via HTTP protocol to the Exchange 2000/2003 OWA servers (both as
bridgehead, and direct) via the WebDAV protocol, as published in a Microsoft
hosted article (I cannot find it for reference at this moment). The process
to doing this is the same for both Outlook Express (version 6 or newer), and
the outlook webmail connector, which is what I am using now with outlook
2007 as a temporary work-around.
1) create a new account
2) select the protocol "http"
3) select "other" as the provider type (available options are: hotmail, msn,
other)
4) enter the url as:
http://server.dns.name/exchange/mailbox_name (ex:
https://mail.myserver.com/exchange/Armand.Welsh )
5) select the login user name, and password for the connection
6) leave the SPA authentication feature turned off
Now, upon first connection, the client obtains a list of all the folders
(calendars, and contacts do not work, due to webDAV content restrictions,
that prohibit the content to all clients other than IE6 browsers, which I
personally verfied by creating my own custom webDAV client to pull this
information, by faking an IE 6/7 browser). Once the folders list is
obtained, then the client begins downloading the inbox content.
