| Guest | Why doesn't OWA 2003 work with live mail? I upgraded from the outlook express to windows live mail. Before the upgrade, I was able to get my school email in outlook express via HTTP. those same settings no longer work on live mail. and when I try to create a new account using the wizard, I receive an authentication error from mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v1.0.0/ which is trying to authenticate me with the wrong login ID. help? | Guest | Re: Why doesn't OWA 2003 work with live mail? No, you were *not* using Outlook Express to get mail from an Exchange Server (OWA) via HTTP. The *only* HTTP services Outlook Express can work with are HotMail and MSN. OWA only works with a web browser. If you were using Outlook Express with an Exchange Server, you were using either POP3 or IMAP. Neither Windows Mail nor Windows Live Mail will allow HTTP access to an Exchange Server. Your options are POP3 and IMAP. If you want OWA (Outlook Web Access, which is an HTTP representation of an Outlook client that lives on the Exchange Server), use IE. Incidentally, Microsoft Exchange servers require a hotfix in order to support Vista OWA clients: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911829 -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (WLMail) "Hal Hostetler [MVP P/I]" <hhh@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:unKagA1cIHA.4436@xxxxxx

| Guest | Re: Why doesn't OWA 2003 work with live mail? Surely, you can't be serious about this post. Outlook Express, did/does connect via HTTP protocol to the Exchange 2000/2003 OWA servers (both as bridgehead, and direct) via the WebDAV protocol, as published in a Microsoft hosted article (I cannot find it for reference at this moment). The process to doing this is the same for both Outlook Express (version 6 or newer), and the outlook webmail connector, which is what I am using now with outlook 2007 as a temporary work-around. 1) create a new account 2) select the protocol "http" 3) select "other" as the provider type (available options are: hotmail, msn, other) 4) enter the url as: http://server.dns.name/exchange/mailbox_name (ex: https://mail.myserver.com/exchange/Armand.Welsh ) 5) select the login user name, and password for the connection 6) leave the SPA authentication feature turned off Now, upon first connection, the client obtains a list of all the folders (calendars, and contacts do not work, due to webDAV content restrictions, that prohibit the content to all clients other than IE6 browsers, which I personally verfied by creating my own custom webDAV client to pull this information, by faking an IE 6/7 browser). Once the folders list is obtained, then the client begins downloading the inbox content. "Hal Hostetler [MVP P/I]" <hhh@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:unKagA1cIHA.4436@xxxxxx

| Guest | Re: Why doesn't OWA 2003 work with live mail? I did have the problem described in the knowledge base article when connecting to my school using the web browser of my vista machine, however, I worked around it by tweeking the security settings of the trusted sites zone, and adding the site to this zone. because of the change I made to my browser, the mailbox always opens in a new window, and the site is fully functional. I don't know if this is related to the same cause as the kb article, but the symptoms were the same. this doesn't affect me either way. I just want to access my exchange mail via the OWA WebDAV api, so that I can use my mail client, and not the browser, to access my mail, like I used to do. It's quite amusing how the person who replied to my message originally, completely ignored that fact that I was doing this before the upgrade to the new program, dismissing the issue as one that never worked... I guess the lack of communication at microsoft, discussed the on the live mail blog site, is pretty accurate... Armand "Gary VanderMolen" <gary@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:uiQnwD5cIHA.3940@xxxxxx

Access 2003 (OWA 2003) when in fact you're talking about the loss of hotmail ( and similar ) support in Windows Mail compared with Outlook Express. Outlook Web Access 2003 does not appear to have anything to do with the problem you had. OWA refers to a separate technology that is used in conjunction with Outlook and MS Exchange Server to enable users to view their email in a web browser instead of the Outlook client.

experienced posters, who by their dedication to helping others in peer-to-peer forums like this have earned the right to call themselves MVP, have tried to point out to you that HTTP access to mail accounts other than Hotmail doesn't work in WLMail. If your school doesn't offer IMAP (or POP3) access to their Exchange server, then perhaps you ought to try persuading them to do so. -- Noel

running a WebDAV utility to allow HTTPMail access, Windows Live Mail will not work. I don't know what any of that has to do with Outlook Web Access. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum

| Guest | Re: Why doesn't OWA 2003 work with live mail? I have never accessed my hotmail account.... how do I know this? because I don't have one... I have been using Outlook Express to access my school's OWA account. I will review the reference to the claim that Windows Live Mail no longer supports webDav. my understanding was that the windows mail client with vista doesn't support webDav. There was a document from microsoft that claimed that windows live mail would allow for this type of access when it is released. If neither windows live mail nor windows mail work, then I guess I will go back to outlook express, or I'll just have to switch to the bloated outlook mail client, where I can use the webmail plugin to access exchange server via the webDav interface of OWA.
