| | Live Mail (Hotmail) servers inject encoding/header info when sent/received from hotmail.com accounts ONLY The following QUESTION was posted to WINDOWS.VISTA.MAIL newsgroup but now posted here as issue with WINDOWS LIVE MAIL (formerly HOTMAIL) service... specifically, email servers embed encoding/header information in CONTENT of email itself... but only when sending/receiving between HOTMAIL accounts. See comments below for examples. Any idea as to how to remove this? Something hotmail.com support has to address? ...Grant _____________________________________________________________________________________________ REFERENCE (from previous forum posts)_____________________________________________________________________________________________ Confirmed... problem occurs when sending NEW or REPLY emails to HOTMAIL recipients... other ISP email addresses work fine... | | Re: Live Mail (Hotmail) servers inject encoding/header info when sent/received from hotmail.com accounts ONLY If I could just try and clear up what appears to be some confusion. In your first post, you mentioned the problem occurred when sending new or reply messages from *Windows Mail* ([quote...] "People complain about the emails they get from me from my Windows Mail account"). However, the header information you quoted tells us that you were using *Windows Live Mail*, not Windows Mail ("X-Mailer: Microsoft Windows Live Mail 12.0.1606") to send a reply e-mail from your *Windows Live Hotmail* account, when the problem mentioned occurred. Now, "Hotmail" was renamed to "Windows Live Mail" for a while, but it is now called "Windows Live Hotmail". Windows Mail comes with Vista, but the e-mail client called "Windows Live Mail" is a completely different program that can be installed in XP or Vista. This newsgroup is dedicated to the e-mail client "Windows Live Mail", which was formerly called "Windows Live Mail desktop" (Hence the name of this newsgroup). So you are now posting in the right newsgroup since the problem does concern your e-mail client Windows Live Mail, although it is confined to your Hotmail account when sending messages through it to other Hotmail accounts. So to clarify everything (please correct me if I am wrong). You are using Windows Live Mail 12.0.1606 on a Vista Ultimate x64 system (but you still have access to your XP system with Outlook Express, which your Hotmail account is also set up in). Using Windows Live Mail, when you send a *new* e-mail message using your hotmail.com account to (only) another Hotmail account, the recipient receives the message with the headers inserted into the message body. However, if you BCC a copy of such a message to yourself, you *do not* see any headers inserted into the message body. Using Windows Live Mail, when you send a *reply* e-mail message using your hotmail.com account to (only) another Hotmail account, the recipient receives the message with the headers inserted into the message body. However, if you BCC a copy of such a message to yourself, you *do* see headers inserted into the message body. This problem only began after you began using Windows Live Mail on your Vista Ultimate x64 system. The same thing *does not* happen when you use Outlook Express, the Windows Live Hotmail web interface or your Blackberry to send such messages. *Have you installed Windows Live Mail on your XP system and tried the same scenarios through it? This problem occurs whatever encoding method you use. This problem occurs with "Reply to messages using the format in which they were sent" both checked and unchecked. Your quotes do confirm that the problem occurs using "Rich Text (HTML)" format. *Have you tried using "Plain text" format (Format->Plain text)? You have ruled out an Antivirus program messing up the sent messages, because you haven't got an antivirus installed. *Maybe you should install one and scan your system for viruses, or are you using an on-line scanning tool? As Gary pointed out, this problem is extremely unusual, so if you are now more clear about this issue, you might need to seek Windows Live Mail technical support (Help->Get technical support). But you might want to install Windows Live Mail on your XP system first, to further isolate the problem. -- Cheers, Peter (Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows Live Mail 12.0.1606) "There are more things in Heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." - Shakespeare --------------- "Grant - CNW" <CNW@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:8F796CEB-59AC-4DC8-A333-DB75C3FC16C0@xxxxxx Quote: > The following QUESTION was posted to WINDOWS.VISTA.MAIL newsgroup but now > posted here as issue with WINDOWS LIVE MAIL (formerly HOTMAIL) service... > specifically, email servers embed encoding/header information in CONTENT of > email itself... but only when sending/receiving between HOTMAIL accounts. > See comments below for examples. I believe that the 'microsoft.public.msn.discussion' forum on these servers is still the best, most appropriate forum for any discussions pertaining to "Hotmail". I have replied to your original post in the 'windows.vista.mail' newsgroup. But I can't replicate your original problem. Hotmail to Hotmail email that I have sent does not show header lines in the message body. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |
