Import Outlook Exp. to WLM not working properly

I am trying to import some Outlook Exp. messages that I have saved on a
memory stick. Everything seems to work right and I get the message "71
messages imported", however the messages are not appearing in any of my WLM
folders. Any ideas about what has happened to the imported messages. (the
messages are not in the Imported Folder either).

Re: Import Outlook Exp. to WLM not working properly

I do know that for some reason, WLMail does not like exporting to external hard drives, so maybe it also has a problem importing from them. Try copying the exported contents to your hard drive before importing them.

Re: Import Outlook Exp. to WLM not working properly

I tried moving the files to my local disk, and I get the same results. It
says the messages were imported but they are nowhere to be found.
Interestingly, 4 new Import folders are show in WML Storage folders but they
are all empty. I have tried both the import all and import select folders
(Inbox only). My new destop is running Windows Vista, my old that I exported
the OutLook Express from was running XP. All the exported files are .dbx
files.

Re: Import Outlook Exp. to WLM not working properly

OK I found the messages by doing a search. Some messages are located here:
C:\Users\Wayne\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Storage
Folders\Imported Folder (1)\Local Folders

but the messages are not being displayed in the WML application's Storage
Folders\Imported folders\Local Folders. Just the Folder names but no
messages.

Re: Import Outlook Exp. to WLM not working properly

Is "Show all messages" (View->Current view->) selected for that folder?

Re: Import Outlook Exp. to WLM not working properly

Yes it is selected. I noticed that the AppData folder is flagged as a Read
Only folder - Could that have anything to do with the problem??

Re: Import Outlook Exp. to WLM not working properly

No, "Read only" is set for my Message Store also without any problem.

It seems that the database has not been able to record the messages, or the message headers, but I have no idea why.

1. Open up one or two of the messages (double-click) that you found in your WLMail Message Store at C:\Users\Wayne\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Storage Folders\Imported items (1)\Local Folders

2. If the messages looks ok, then create a folder on your Desktop, and drag all of those messages into it (hopefully all 71 messages are there).

3. Then create a new folder in WLMail, e.g. "Local Folders" under Storage folders.

4. Then drag all the messages from your Desktop folder onto the WLMail interface into the new folder you created there.

5. If all goes well, you can the delete the "Imported items" folders in WLMail, and if they don't get automatically deleted from the Message Store, also delete them from there.

6. Your Quick views will break after deleting the folders in WLMail, so use the fix below.

7. To rebuild the Quick Views from scratch, you should delete the registry Value "SearchFolderVersion" under the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail. This will cause WLMail to rebuild its Quick view data store when it is next started.

Something else you could do as well, is import the Outlook Express messages (I am assuming you now have Vista) into Windows Mail, then follow the procedure above from number 2.

Re: Import Outlook Exp. to WLM not working properly

Ok - thanks. I finally got the messages into WML. I imported the messages
from the thumb drive into Windows Mail - it worked. I then imported the
messages from WM to WML and that worked. Thanks for your help
