Vista - Windows Live Sign-in Assistant not installed

Im running Windows Vista Premium and just responded to the Windows
Live Messenger prompt that a new version was available. I clicked to
install the new version. The Windows Live Installer reports all the
components install correctly, except the "Sign-in Assistant", which
reports as "Not installed".

Any ideas why this wouldnt have installed?

I am thinking that it is probably because the most recent version of Windows Live Sign-In Assistant is already installed. There was an optional update to it offered through MS Update recently (KB947449), which you might have installed.

Look at the files and version in
Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Windows Live

5 files(4 dll's and an exe) should now be present instead of 3
Check the file version in WLLoginProxy.exe - the latest post update should be 5.0.742.2

The update iirc, appeared in the Other category in Windows Update when Msft Updates are enabled.

If not present in Windows/Microsoft Update it may be able to force it, by add-removing the sign in assistant, installing a Live
application not previously installed which will reinstall the original 'assistant', restart, then rerun Windows Updates.
