| | Can I prevent my 'Windows Live Mail' contacts from loading in 'Messenger'? Until very recently, I used Windows Live Messenger to communicate with one family member and I used Outlook Express for e-mail. Then I decided to try Windows Live Mail and installed it and have been using it for about 2 weeks, I guess. All of a sudden when I go to Windows Live messenger, I see my whole e-mail address book there. Are all the users of Messenger now able to access and see my e-mail addresses? That scares me. I consider my address book as my own private list! Secondly, since I only have one Messenger correspondent, I don't want to see all my contacts cluttering up Messenger. I have searched Windows Live Mail online help and I cannot seem to find any information that explains how the two programs interact in this manner. |

| | Re: Can I prevent my 'Windows Live Mail' contacts from loading in 'Messenger'? If you sign in with a Live ID while using WLMail, then you will see the contacts associated with that Live ID; you will also see them in Hotmail (if that ID is linked to a Hotmail-type account) and in Windows Live Messenger if you use the same account there. No one else can see or access them without your permission. If you don't want your whole contacts list displayed in Messenger, then in messenger choose Show menu > Contacts > Filter contacts > Messenger contacts only. In Help, type Messenger in the search box. One of the results should be "Do I need to sign in to use Windows Live Mail?", which explains what signing in involves. -- Noel "Merrily" <m_pukmel@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:e3kbQeFgIHA.5348@xxxxxx Quote: > Until very recently, I used Windows Live Messenger to communicate with one > family member and I used Outlook Express for e-mail. | | Re: Can I prevent my 'Windows Live Mail' contacts from loading in I had OE installed for a long long time... Since it was Internet Mail for Windows 98... I have a long list of contacts, that belongs to different POP3 mail accounts, that I use for work, studies, etc... Hotmail I use it just to chat... Just with MSN Messenger. I also use OE to check Hotmail, until 2 days ago I receive an e-mail advicing me that the feature will not me avaliable anymore... I must migrate to WLM. I installed.... a lot of issues. The program started to use a lot of resources (i have an inbox of aprox 1.6 GB of mails in OE) and also noticed that all my contacts from all the POP3 accounts where taken to the Hotmail account. That I think is a violation to privacy. I don't want that. I want my contacts from different accounts at different places. Also want my contacts be avaliable offline just as it was with OE. Today after 2 days of using WLM i decided to uninstall it. I have roled back to OE which is faster, the contacts are saved in my computer... and doesn't use 50% of the resources of my CPU.... Sorry Microsoft.... It's a shame. I think that with all the Live idea, and not giving us the possibility to choose what do we want to do with our stuff will make the hole concept fail. If Microsoft finally decides to not allow us to check Hotmail with OE, well... I can do it with the webmail... but, until Hotmail becomes a POP3 or IMAP service it will be always behind GMAIL and Yahoo (mails I use for more serius purposes). I hope the next version of WLM these things are reconsidered and fixed.... "Merrily" wrote: Quote: > Thank you, both. Don't know why I could not seem to figure it out! | | Re: Can I prevent my 'Windows Live Mail' contacts from loading in I've never had issues with OE.... But in 2 days using WLM I had to shut it down with the Task Manager at least 5 times and that it is TRUE. You ask me to add a new Live ID account and sing in with it, associated to the POP3 account. What if I have 6 POP3 accounts? I will have to associate all? And If I make a false Live ID account, not associated to any e-mail... my contacts will be stored at my computer or online? Because sometimes I can't access to Internet because of issues on my ISP, and still want to see the e-mail address of my contacts. Pardon for my english and perhaps about some spelling mistakes. English is not my primary language. | | Re: Can I prevent my 'Windows Live Mail' contacts from loading in I will give WLM a second chance........ What I dislike is that now I will have to reorganize all the e-mails on the different accounts (I had to do It before and I will have to do it again)... I don't know the reason of this bug, because I don't have photo e-mails..... The issues appeared on folders with no photos, but with some attachments I just want to have 2 different address books. One for the WLM and my POP3 accounts, and one for the hotmail account. I don't want to mix them and I don't want to have them as contacts on MSN (I know you can filter them, but that's not the point... there's no reason for Microsoft to import them and add to the Live ID account... and that for the ones that are not so familiar with the use of computers or Internet, besides checking e-mail or chatting, can be a problem). Why create unnecesary a problem? Just because when you install WLM, I was not asked about what I wanted to do with my contact list, as well as my existing OE e-mails. The installation program automatically imports. Sometimes is good to ask the user what he wants to do. And yes, it have to be a valid e-mail. But again... why Microsoft have to get my e-mail address? My e-mail address I what to have it in private. That is why I have the Hotmail address... as public address and I find out, that if I use the Hotmail address as Live ID, all my private contacts are merged with the Hotmail's contacts and also save online...... Some things there aren't right. And I'm not any important person... but what if I was a CEO of a company? And I have a Hotmail account and use WLM? Why my contact list should be on the Microsoft server? I think that is a violation to the privacy. Giving the option to the user, before doing that should fix this and everyone is happy. | | Re: Can I prevent my 'Windows Live Mail' contacts from loading in The WLM sign-in function is the key to obtaining what you wish to accomplish. WLM is capable of retaining a single default contact list and a separate contact list for each Live ID(associated with a Hotmail/Live/MSn.com address) If you wish all your pop3 accounts to use the same contact list Configure WLM to Stop Signing(Tools/Options/Connection/Stop Signin In) - all accounts setup in WLM will use the same(default) contact list - with multiple accounts ensure you select the correct account in the message composition window If you wish to use the Hotmail Contacts(sync'd with Hotmail and Messenger) Click on the Windows Live Sign-in hot button(upper right on the ToolBar) - To prevent an automatic sign-on with the Live ID, ensure the box 'Remember Password is not checked) Subsequent openings of WLM will prompt for the Live ID. - Click on Cancel to use the default contacts or - Signon with the Hotmail Live ID to use the sync'ed Contacts(again ensure Remember Password is not checked) -- ...winston ms-mvp windows live mail "fedelepra" <fedelepra@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:987A8C5C-F486-4E15-92B7-F8983934DA43@xxxxxx Quote: > I will give WLM a second chance........ > What I dislike is that now I will have to reorganize all the e-mails on the > different accounts (I had to do It before and I will have to do it again)... > I don't know the reason of this bug, because I don't have photo e-mails..... > The issues appeared on folders with no photos, but with some attachments > > I just want to have 2 different address books.
