Moving personal folder from Outlook to WLM?

Hey gang,

I have successfully exported my contacts, in my Outlook 2002 on XP, into my
Windows Live Mail under Vista Ultimate 64 bit.

I also have several, personal folders, with emails stored under each one, in
Outlook 2002 on my XP install.

Is there an easy way, to get those over to my Windows Live Mail on Vista?

I took a look at the export option in Outlook, and it appeared each folder
would have to be exported individually, and not sure they can even be
imported in WLM?

Any feedback from anyone that has gone through this, would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks,

--
Don

Re: Moving personal folder from Outlook to WLM?

You can import the Outlook folders (messages) into Outlook Express.
Then, move the OE store folder to Vista, import into WLM.
If interested, I will give detailed directions.

Thanks Ron, makes sense, I will take a look at giving it a try tomorrow, and
will advise if I need more details.

Many thanks,

Re: Moving personal folder from Outlook to WLM?

Got it, worked perfectly, all my local folders with saved messages now
reside in WLM as I wanted them.

Many thanks for the tip Ron,

Re: Moving personal folder from Outlook to WLM?

I did not find outlook express on Vista Machine.
Please explain how can I install outlook express in vista.
In my XP machine the OE says it can export only to Micrisoft Outlook or
Microsoft Exchange.

Re: Moving personal folder from Outlook to WLM?

You can't install Outlook Express in Vista.
This newsgroup is Windows Live Mail.
You should start a new question in the vista.mail newsgroup.

Re: Moving personal folder from Outlook to WLM?

Hi, Hawii.

OE will not run in Vista.
WM (Windows Mail) will not run in WinXP.
WLM (Windows Live Mail) will run in both WinXP and Vista.

Just as OE is included on every WinXP CD-ROM, WM is included on every Vista
DVD-ROM. WLM was not released until November 2007, so it is not included in
either WinXP or Vista, but it can be freely downloaded from:
http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

Note that Don (the OP) wanted to move messages from Outlook, not Outlook
Express. Ron told him how to Import to OE from OL, and then Import to WLM
from OE. Using Imports, not Exports.

Rather than EXPORT from OE, you should IMPORT to either WM or WLM. In fact,
if they find the OE Store Folder, either WM or WLM will (semi-automatically)
handle the import as a part of their installation process.

One way to handle the migration is to install WLM in WinXP, letting it do
the conversion process, importing from OE's few *.dbx files (in its Store
Folder) to WLM's many *.eml files (in its Message Store folder). Then
import the Message Store from WLM in WinXP to WLM in Vista.

Microsoft's program-naming crew has done it again - and again. :>( Outlook
and Outlook Express are different programs with confusingly-similar names,
as you know. Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail (known as Windows Live Mail
Desktop during much of its beta, which is why the word "desktop" is still in
the name of this newsgroup) are also different programs with similar roots -
and Windows Live Hotmail is still another different program with a similar
name.

This newsgroup is for peer-to-peer support of WLM. The corresponding NG for
WM is microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail
