Messenger and Mail still seperate?

Today (3/12/08) I downloaded the new Windows Live Mail. I had actually never
used any of these desktop mail programs before, so I was excited that in the
preview pictures on the Go Live website it showed messenger integrated into
the same window as the mail accounts.

However, when I downloaded the program, I downloaded just the mail program
(I didn't want the extras of family protection, write to blog, etc) and when
I opened it I was disappointed to see just my log-in name, status, and
display picture in the top right corner, not my entire messenger window with
contacts listed integrated as shown before in the example. In fact, I still
have to use two different windows to access my mail and messenger, and even
contacts opens up in a new window (which is a hassle, even with the tabbing
features of Vista).

I know that this is supposedly the official release of Windows Live Mail and
all, but this seems to be rather misleading... all of the demo pictures show
the messenger integrated into the mail main window, but mine does not have
any options for that. It's simply a small menu size box in the top right
corner. No listed offline/online contacts or anything.

Did I miss something by only downloading the Mail and not the extras? I
already had Live Messenger and didn't think I needed any of the extras to get
this integration. I checked all updates and spent hours looking for any
options, but found nothing.

I am also using WLM and messenger.

My screen name for messenger is different from my @live.com address. But in the upper right hand corner is a button for you to log into messenger using your @live.com address. So I disconnected from using my other address and signed into messenger using WLM. A screen popped up, showing my email contacts list as my list for the IM from the WLM interface. It also put an IM icon in the system tray. It appears to me that it is integrated, but some of the functions are seperate.

I still believe that it is a good combination, even though in part they are still two different programs.

Thanks Joe, it is sad that they are separate like this.

I just wish that Microsoft/Windows would realize that their demo pictures
are misleading if we aren't getting that final product in the picture
(integrated), or if they aren't integrated like they are supposed to be and
this is some kind of glitch.

Would it be that I would have to uninstall my messenger program I wonder?
Anyway, I'll just deal with it for now.

I have not seen any screenshots that would imply WLMessenger was now part of WLMail.

What is the link to the 'demo pictures' that you mentioned?

You know, I took a closer look at the screenshots, and realized it wasn't
messenger, it was a view of Windows Live Mail and the "preview" option was to
the right instead of below, so it looked like a separate program added in.

My Windows Live Mail account doesn't work through my browser logging into
the main site (says it's unavailable), so I have only been using the desktop
version. I still have yet to see the same "look" as the one in the
screenshot, but there is no problem with the program itself. I just wish it
looked as nice as the one in the screenshot. ^^;
