Inbox won't receive mail

I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium and just recently switched from Windows
Mail to WLM and made WLM my default handler. All seemed to work well when I
started, but after trying to get my newsgroups visible (Microsoft
Communities & cnews.corel.com) and finally succeeding things seemed to go
wrong.

First, my Inbox disappeared when the newsgroups were displayed, but I
finally figured out that I couldn't have the newsgroups displayed at the
same time as the default mail categories. But when I got those default
categories back my Inbox would no longer receive messages. I tried 5
different test messages to myself and they all went to the Windows Mail
Inbox instead of WLM. However, the "sent" messages did appear in the WLM
"Sent items" folder.

BTW in order to get my newsgroups visible I need to use CTRL-W and when I do
that the Inbox folder (and others) disappear. I need to click on the icon
"Inbox" in order to have them return and then the newsgroups disappear. How
do I fix this?

Thanks

Re: Inbox won't receive mail

Shortly after posting the problem, I started receiving mail and another test
message sent to myself (the 6th one) it was received by WLM and not in WM.
So all seems well again. At a loss to understand but that goes into a huge
mental box of unknowns!

So, please disregard.

Re: Inbox won't receive mail

Do you have both email programs configured to leave a copy of
messages on the server? Otherwise, the first one to download
a given email message will make it unavailable for the other.

Re: Inbox won't receive mail

If both programs are set to delete the messages from the server after
they download them, only one will get each message and which one
will vary.

Re: Inbox won't receive mail

There should be some icons near the bottom of the left pane
which you can use to switch between the newsgroups view
and the mail view. While in the newsgroups view, you can
read mail in the Quick views folder. I solved this issue by
using WLM for email and WM for newsgroups, and I keep both
running simultaneously.

Re: Inbox won't receive mail

All the above comments are new and helpful to me. It's cleared up a problem
and given me insight to some better management of WLM/WM. Thanks to all.

Re: Inbox won't receive mail

I have now configured WLM to leave a copy of the messages on the server. I
couldn't find in WM where this could be done, after checking Options and
Accounts.

Re: Inbox won't receive mail

You're welcome. WM is preferred for newsgroups because it has that
handy "View All Messages/Hide Read Messages" selector right on the toolbar.
