Importing Problem with Live Mail and MSN

I am trying to resolve a problem my buddy has with his email. Seems he was, by no choice, forced to use Windows Live email rather than his old MSN.com email account. He was asked if he wanted to try the new Live Mail when he got his MSN mail. He accidentally said yes and when the page click over, he lost his email from MSN. He cannot open the account, nor can he access it, or get any of his mail or saved folders.

We set up a new live account but cannot find anything that would allow him to switch or import his old mail to the live account. One problem: He can't remember his password from the old account so he can't have the password reset link sent to him. Isn't there a way that he can gain access to his old mail from the msn.com mail? The Live Mail window says that it will not accept old mail or HTTP on Mail so he has to set up a Live mail account. What a mess! He is in dire need of the saved files folder.

Are you certain that was the chain of events?
or

When your 'buddy' accessed Hotmail via the web interface he was asked to try Windows Live Hotmail the new interface to Hotmail. The
older interface is no longer available.

If you buddy set up an alternate email address in his hotmail email address profile he can reset the account, the only other option
is hotmail support via email.
