Show stopping bug? Can't see some emails?

I have found a show stopping issue.

We are trying to use WLM with the hmailserver IMAP email server. There are
certain emails that WLM does not show! They are not flagged or moved or
anything but when I use Thunderbird they appear and are flagged as unread.
The "lost" email is from one sender only so far.

Anyone else see this or have any ideas

Thanks,

Kevin

Re: Show stopping bug? Can't see some emails?

Is that sender perhaps in your blocked list? or perhaps his domain?
I'm afraid it's a bit late for a show stopper as WLM has been live for quite
some time now.

Darn,

It is not just from one sender but so far has been from only one domain and
is not consistent! I have removed and re-installed WLM with no change.

Unless someone has a fix I guess we will be going back to TB.

You didn't answer Colin's question.
Have you checked the Blocked Senders list?
And the International tab for blocked domains or blocked encoding?

Re: Show stopping bug? Can't see some emails?

My apologies,

The Blocked Senders, Blocked domains and Blocked Encoding are all blank. The
problem is not just with one sender but, to date, has only been with one
domain but not consistently. The emails are not moved, deleted, flagged or
anything else. They are simply not shown. If they are moved to another
folder they are still invisible. The view is set to "Show All Messages". the
messages are in plain text.

I added the domain (example.com) to the Safe Senders list and it did not
help. I am now adding the individual email addresses to the same list and
we'll see if it helps.

Re: Show stopping bug? Can't see some emails?

I'm having a bit of difficulty working out how you move an invisible
message. How do you know you've received it if you can't see it?
Could it be that you are downloading Headers only? Right-click on the Inbox
folder and select Synchronization settings.
Do you get an error message? If so, what does it say?
Have you mapped the WLMail folders to the server ones? Right-click on the
account name in the Folder pane and select Properties. Check the settings on
the IMAP tab.

Re: Show stopping bug? Can't see some emails?

Thanks for the reply,

I can see them when I use another email client (Thunderbird). it looks like
They are all from the same domain. I am really stumped.

I do have all the folders mapped.

Re: Show stopping bug? Can't see some emails?

Just to be certain... you are using IMAP and not POP3 to access your
hmailserver mail in Thunderbird? (Unless the client is configured to retain
a copy of downloaded messages on the server, you will see the behaviour you
describe.)

Are there any clues in the log?

Re: Show stopping bug? Can't see some emails?

Hi Noel,

I am using IMAP on both clients as well as the servers webmail. I am not
finding any clues in the server log. No errors or warnings. Should I be
looking in another log? Should I be searching the log for something specific
(the server logs are huge)?

I tried WLM with another computer (same account) with and without signing in
to Live Services and had the same issue.

I removed WLM and Live Messenger (stripping the registry and hard drive of
anything "Windows Live" related) and reinstalled but no change.

I setup the another account in WLM with the same user but using POP3
(setting it to leave messages on the server) and the messages appear in the
POP3 account. WLM indicates 45 messages in the POP3 inbox and 36 in the IMAP
inbox.

Is there anything I can look for in the emails headers? Flags or something?
I have access to the raw emails on the server (ASCII text).

Is there anything else anyone can think of for me to try.

Thanks,

Kevin

Re: Show stopping bug? Can't see some emails?

I meant WindowsLiveMail.log in the root of your Store folder. Logging has to
be enabled at Options > Advanced > Maintenance; the Store folder button on
the same tab will tell you where your Store folder is. The IMAP entries are
pretty obscure, but they might indicate what's going on.

Otherwise, I'm about out of ideas. My IMAP experience is limited to a single
Gmail account, which works faultlessly.
