Re: .dbx

What are you trying to do?
WLM doesn't use .dbx files, like Outlook Express, it uses plain text .eml
files for messages. And an index (messagestore) that keeps track of
messages, folders, etc.

Re: .dbx

I wanted to erase my .dbx files from my hard drive.
With OE I had to do a fair bit of tinkering with the .dbx files, ultimately
because of successive computer failures and corrupted identities. Do I not
have this option with WLM?
Cheers.

Re: .dbx

You don't need to, with WLM. And it has no Identities.
WLM, by default, will offer to compact the message store (index) after you
shut it down 100 times. You can change this frequency, I have mine set to
4, as I seldom shut it down.
Tools - Options - Advanced - Maintenance
[x] Compact the database on shutdown every xx runs

This won't affect your messages, but merely recovers space in the database
taken by references to deleted items.

Re: .dbx

If you would tell us what the purpose is of what you are trying
to do, we might be able to help you.
There have been a lot of changes since Outlook Express.

Re: .dbx

Well it's not that I have any specific purpose, more that it's my habit to
fiddle around putting different collections of emails on different
computers, to be accessible by the facilities that the email programme
(previously OE) has to offer.

How do I back up my emails - I don't suppose OE Quick Backup would be of any
use?
Cheers,
Johnny
