Microsoft Word and Windows Live Mail

In Word it is possible from the File Menu to chose Send to to email the
document to another person. Unfortunately this brings up an Outlook Address
Book and not the WLM Contacts List. How can I change the default in Word?
Not amount of changing default programs in IE or associations seem to work!

Re: Microsoft Word and Windows Live Mail

Mine does. But It occurs to me, did you setup a contacts folder in WM, before using WLM. - Might be the difference? - Maybe they have separate Contact folders in Vista.

Re: Microsoft Word and Windows Live Mail

I did use Windows Mail initially but my Send to Mail Recipient tries to use
Outlook Address Book.
I removed Outlook and now the Send to Mail Recipient is greyed out.

Re: Microsoft Word and Windows Live Mail

I have just played around with Office. This might help.
Select tool - Letters and mailings. Mail Merge- and work through the instructions on the right. (Select letters and then, at the bottom Staring Document. Then Selecting recipients. you then come to an option "Select from Outlooks contacts" and browse.option. You can then select a file or database. You may be able to work something in from there

Re: Microsoft Word and Windows Live Mail

I tried this but it wants a database source not a folder. The folder for
WLM contacts on my machine is
c:\Users\UserID\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Contacts\Default"
The problem is that opening that folder displays all the contacts - Word
seems to be looking for a datasource (single file).

Re: Microsoft Word and Windows Live Mail

PeterR's comprehensive instructions for making sure all the defaults are set
to WLMail in Vista:
<quote>
In Vista, apart from making WLMail the default Mail and News handler at
WLMail's Tools->options...->General [tab], also set all its defaults
through: Start Orb->Control Panel->Internet Options->Programs [tab]->Set
programs [button]->Set your default programs->Windows Live Mail, and Windows
Live Mail (news).

Also, follow that up by going to: Start Orb->Control Panel->Internet
Options->Programs [tab]->Set programs [button]->Set program access and
computer defaults->Custom, and check "Windows Live Mail" under "Choose a
default e-mail program :" I found the latter option also necessary to ensure
WLMail is set as default in in *all* relevant parts of the registry.
<unquote>

If that doesn't fix your Send to oddity in MS Word, you'll have to Google
for remedies, of which there are many depending on what the fault is. It's
not an error in WLMail.

Re: Microsoft Word and Windows Live Mail

I've tried all that has been suggested including Googling for solutions.
There are none that I can find that address this problem. Do other users
using Word and Windows Live Mail use the "Send to" option under the Word
File Menu to send the document as an attachment? Do they have this problem
or is just my setup?

Re: Microsoft Word and Windows Live Mail

I use OL07 as my default email client and WLM as my news client....after a 11 yrs or Outlook use my better judgement(I don't
particular like messing with OL and all the relationships it has with the other Office Pro 2007 functions<g>) normally prevents me
from messing my preferred email client..

But......after creating an image(just in case)..I successfully switched WLM to my default email client.
The steps were as follows.
a. Ensure WLM is set to sign-on with a Live ID
b. Open Vista's default programs(Start[Orb]\Default Programs)
1. Set Your Default Programs\Windows Live Mail\Choose Defaults for this program
- ensured that two options were enabled by placing a check in each box for eml and Url Mail To Protocol then click Save
2.Set Program access and computer defaults
- Custom\Choose a default email program:, select Windows Live Mail, click ok
c. Shutdown/Restart

After restart I opened Word 2007, created a Word document, clicked on the Office button, scrolled to Send\Email.
- behind the Word Windows(also on the Task bar) was a dialog box to Sign-In to Windows Live Mail. Entered the Live
ID(username/pw) then Windows Live Mail opened with the Word document as an attachment.

ymmv..

Immediately, thereafter I returned all settings to make Outlook 2007 my default email client.

Re: Microsoft Word and Windows Live Mail

What does "a. Ensure WLM is set to sign-on with a Live ID" have to do with
using WLM as the default email client?
The location of the address book will be different if you are signed in.
Do you have a live ID in Outlook?
I don't see if you tried to select an email recipient.

- nothing more than as stated(the first step I followed), did not state it was necessary.

- yes (but doesn't matter)
Quote:

> Do you have a live ID in Outlook?
- yes(2) pop3 both are Live ID's neither are present in WLM. Note: Pop3 Live ID's don't sync.

- 4 different email accounts in WLM(2 pop3 non Live ids, 2 http Live Ids, one http is the default for signin

- 106 contacts in Outlook. The same Contacts are also in all WLM accounts(maintained by export to csv in OL and import into the
WLM accounts(this approach allows one to have access to the same contacts with or without a sign-on. Occasionally they get out of
whack, but its quite easy to use the same Outlook csv export(remember OL is my preferred client) and import into the WLM http
accounts or the WLM default without a signon or even import into the Hotmail GUI.
- Its also possible if one has a legacy pop3 msn.com or Hotmail Plus(hotmail.com, live.com or msn.com) to use the alternate
http server instead of the now permissable pop3 server to sync those if necessary or manual import.
Quote:

> I don't see if you tried to select an email recipient.
- Word 07's Send Email function was tested with Attachment and PDF from OL to all OL and WLM email accounts with Outlook as
the default client, and again to all email acccounts after WLM was set as default. Additionally to a separate Gmail and Earthlink
addresses and to my spouses email account. All messages sent and received, though the spouse wasn't too happy about receiving
useless messages with word and pdf attachments.
