| Guest | intermitetnt delete problem Hi I've started getting an intermittent problem when deleting received emails. I get a message saying "an unknown error has occurred". If I come back later I can delete the same message(s) with no problem. Or if I move the problem message to another folder I can delete it from there. Any ideas what's going on. Thanks |

| Guest | Re: intermitetnt delete problem This sort of problem usually occurs when there's some discrepancy between messages stored in your folders and the Message Store database. This should resolve itself by restarting WLMail, because the database is reconstructed on shutdown. If that doesn't help, then you could try forcing a compaction (reindexing, as well) by temporarily changing 100 to 1 at Options > Advanced
database might be corrupted. You can restore your Quick views by editing the registry. If you are willing to try this, Close down Windows Live Mail Click Start > Run, enter regedit in the box and click OK Navigate to the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail and click on it In the right-hand pane, find SearchFolderVersion Right-click on it and select Delete Close down Registry Editor Restart Windows Live Mail It will take the program longer than usual to start while your Quick views are being rebuilt. Please come back and tell us what, if anything, worked. -- Noel "JIP" <fred@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:uempj3PjIHA.4076@xxxxxx

closing down WLM and restarting usually seems to fix it, though once I had to that twice. What causes this discrepancy between the message folder and the database in the first place? Thanks again

happening!). Because all messages are stored as individual files, it takes a little while for any file change to be recorded in the temp files; these provide the data that will eventually be written to the Message Store database. If the recording process is disrupted by the user doing something else meanwhile, a corruption may occur that often only survives the current WLMail session. It may occasionally persist into the next session, in which case the files involved may be 'recovered' and stored temporarily in Storage folders. They will usually find their way to their proper place, leaving empty 'Recovered items' folders in Storage folders. You can safely ignore these. So, whenever you undertake a manoeuvre involving a number of files, give the program time to finish its business before doing something else, like switching to newsgroups view. If you have an animated AV icon in the notification area that tells you when the scanner is active, you can probably tell when WLMail has finished writing to disk. It's normally only a few seconds. If anyone else has an authoritative answer to your question, I hope he'll soon be along to enlighten us. -- Noel
